    Morning all!
Mum and sister are coming to stay today until the weekend so I'm up early to get a bit of work done before they arrive around lunchtime.
I might see if they fancy coming with me to have a look at bedroom furniture and soft furnishings, just to price things up. The spare room is my next decoration project and I've started saving towards it but it will be a while before I can afford to do it. Would be nice to have some ideas though.

Right, I'd better get on with the day.:)
  • WW Hope you have a lovely time with your mum and sis

I'm back on muscle relaxant meds and must admit I got a full nights sleep without waking with back/neck pain, but I feel a bit woozy today. Will only be taking them for a few days until I go back to work as I cant drive when I am taking them. So maybe a day to relax today ;)

Have a good day everyone x

Skint - hope you've had a nice relaxing day.

Had a nice windfall today - mum gave me a cheque for £5000 left to me by my grandparents. I wasn't expecting anything at all but the sale of their house (the one that was rented after my gran moved into a nursing home) has been completed and apparently my lovely grandparents had left me the money in their will after the house had been sold.
Made me happy and sad at the same time - my nan and bampi were fabulous people and I loved them both to bits so its a lovely surprise tinged with sadness.

I'm going to put the whole amount away in an ISA or bond (will have a proper look at them before deciding) as part of my emergency fund which is now up to just over £8000 :j That would have made my grandparents happy as they were very prudent with money.
  • WW what a lovely surprise and how lovely of your grandparents, they probably knew you would use it wisely

Havent done much today :o went for a brisk walk to try and clear my head but the wind was biting cold so didnt stay out long Shredded 2 bags of paperwork - 1 still to go.

Then spent the rest of the afternoon watching tv, reading and scoffin home made banana muffins :o was lovely and relaxing :p

  • Evening Grippers ...!

Well, I have been hard at work all day unlike you lucky schoolies! Been a crap day really, frustrating in that not really been able to get stuck into anything a real bitty day.

Would you believe it WW I have also got the Rough Guide to Wales, I think I got it free from an offer on something. Ive only ever been to Pembrokeshire (Saundersfoot) in West Wales which was beautiful and to Monmouthshire when I did Lands End to John O Groats by bike (yes I really did and its not so long ago either I was as fit as a Butchers Dog then, thats what I want to go back to).

Let us know if you book your little holiday, sounds a great idea like Shelski says gives you a chance to get things into perspective and make plans.

Great news also on your inheritance, I know what you mean makes you happy and sad at the same time. Saving it is a great idea, its brill to see your savings growing. More you accumulate the earlier you can retire from the bl**dy rat race!

Skint hope you had a nice relaxing day ...

    Talk soon fellow Grippers x

  • Hello all - especially Kitty! Nice to see you.

Just said goodbye to the visitors - nice to have my house back to normal. They'll be back in three weeks so will see them again soon.

Off to have my hair cut this morning - I'm desperate for a good chop and colour so it will hopefully make me look better.
Will also pop to the bank and put the inheritance cheque in. Will be nice to see a good wodge of cash in there before I squirrel it away to a better interest account. Will have to do some investigating of where to put it but just need it in the bank for now so its safe and the dog can't eat it!

Other than that its a quick whip around the supermarket and some cleaning then settling down to watch the rugby - Wales are playing Italy today so fingers crossed.

Kitty - yes its my dog when he was a little puppy - he's a grumpy bigger middle aged hound now - still lovely though!
  • WW let us know how your hair turns out :D

Havent done much last few days just a bit more sorting and tidying. Didnt get much walking done as its been so cold.,. thats my excuse anyway :p

Went into town yesterday to get eye test and optician recommended varifocals.... I always think of them as "old lady" glasses ....usually on a chain worn around the neck :o (sorry if anyone on here wears them ) so I declined his kind offer as I am far too young and glamourous ;) and just chose a new pair of frames.

Plans for today.... sorting rest of spare room. Washing, ironing usual cleaning. Friend coming round tonight so looking forward to that.

    Have a good day x

Had my hair done and its a bit of a departure for me - slightly different colour that makes it look all healthy and shiny and lots of flicky layers and a sweeping fringe (hairdresser speak for growing out fringe!). It looks really nice now but not sure what it will look like when I do it myself!

Also been to the bank and have put the whole £5000 inheritance cheque into a 2 yr bond at a good interest rate (well, good for today's market anyway). Feel quite virtuous for putting it away for a rainy day. I have a nice little cushion of about £8500 squirreled away now to not touch, will hopefully get that up to £10000 by the end of the year although I'm also saving in different accounts for holidays and to redecorate the spare room. Feel a lot more secure knowing that there's something to fall back on should the worst happen.:)

Grocery shopping also done - £19 spent so not too bad. I have plenty in the freezer and cupboards so it was mainly only dog food and fresh bits and pieces and a few little treats for tonight.

Right the rugby is on - come on Wales!

Skint - I'm sure you're just too glam for varifocals! What are the new frames like?
  • Hi ww ,glad your hair turned out good and it must of felt great putting that cheque in i have never had that much money it would be fab 2year bond is a great idea and being a teacher your job is secure so i dont see why you wont one-day get to the 10000 mark well done , is your gorgeous dog a bichon frise ?
