Hi Grippers!
Well what a lovely day today weatherwise who would believe it for Feb. Warm, sunny and the school holidays too, unheard of!
Im the same as you Skint £135 I paid last month for my car tax. Its only a Nissan Micra but 10 years old so its prob not very eco friendly. What a rip off!
Talking about emergency funds WW, I have built mine up and put it somewhere where I cant touch it. Im not adding to it at all now its just left there to be a cushion for emergencies. It certainly does make you feel a bit more secure doesnt it that you know you have it should you need it.
The Stocks and shares Isa is a bit more exciting I have to say. I started learning about investing with a (male) friend about 2 years ago and have built up knowledge since. Its only for the long term though, I would say at least 10 years. I contribute to it every month and then top up occasionally ifI have any spare money. Its become a bit of a hobby really !
I had a short day at work today, pushed off at 4pm to go for a nice walk. Had a bit of a thick head this morning, out with a friend last night and it was a bit of a late one for a school night.
So early night tonight.0 -
my car tax was £130 last year and is due for renewal in March.

I have a nippy little Peugeot 107. There's a Toyota and Citroen version which are basically the same car too. Its my second one and I've had them both from new and usually trade in after 2.5 - 3 years. I've never had a problem with either one, they are very good on fuel and you can fit 4 people in quite easily. Its a 4 door one so there's no clambering involved to get in the back. The seats go flat in the back too so you can use it to transport stuff if needed.
The insurance is low too - I pay £23 a month with Shelias Wheels and it hasn't gone up for about 3 years (and I don't have the best past record on driving but have no points now!)
I'd recommend one for someone who doesn't have a big family and needs a run around - I do however drive the 250 miles home to Wales in it regularly and it quite happily does 80 on the motorway. It suits me for now.0 -
Thanks for the info, may have to look into getting one ! My car is an 04 plate and I would like to replace it before things start to go wrong
Off to visit a friend today for lunch. We were going to go out but she is going to provide lunch instead so I'm going to take something for dessert, save a few pennies
On the "get a grip" front I'm going to go for walk this morning - no sun here todayand do some shredding later this afternoon - I've just filled 3 carrier bags with paper/bills to sort/shred. Boring but needs to be gone !!

Hope you have a good day Skint.
My day is a pretty boring but necessary one - dog walking, exercise of some sort, cleaning the house ready for the visitors tomorrow and a wodge of schoolwork to get it out of the way.
I also have to pop to the library to pick up a book I've reserved - its for book club in a week or two so I'd better get a move on and start reading it!
Right the dog needs walking so we're off to the park. Hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Finally managing to get a grip. 16 lengths of pool done this morning in half an hour while ds having a swimming lesson. Avoided having coffee from machine afterwards even when dd and ds had a hot choc.
Have job application to complete for a new school:) so fingers crossed. Time to keep the changes goingNumber of debts between us - 3 (2 @ 0%)0 -

Cleaning done (including scrubbing the conservatory floor, the worst job, mucky dog!).
Walked the dog again and popped in for a quick 6 mins on the sunbed, looking much better now - at least I look alive now! I've managed to change my hair appt for 2 hours earlier on the weekend so it will get it out of the way quicker.
I picked up a Rough Guide to Wales at the library this morning and am now toying with going away for a few days during the Easter holidays - only to Snowdonia, nowhere tropical! - but it will be a change of scene and something to look forward to. I've found a nice hotel that has an amazing mid week offer on (£35 a night B&B for me and the dog) and looked at a few things to do - walking in the National Park, Port Meirion, Caernarfon Castle etc. It will be a casual walking shoes and scruffs type of break but its a few days away and I have a some holiday money saved up that will cover it. Will mull it over tonight and maybe book tomorrow if I still fancy it.0 -
Sounds great. Sometimes you just need a change of scenery to clear your head and to get things into perspective and firm up plans for the future.Number of debts between us - 3 (2 @ 0%)0
