They will now accept transfer forms from the ISA provider that you are transferring to.
They said that they had realised that it was causing their staff a lot more extra work with people ringing up to transfer, hence the change.
After all that...then they just change their mind! Bit late for me now, but thanks for the info.0 -
thanks for the info
well i might as well send the transfer form because they still haven't acted on my phone request from 30/4/07!!!!!!0 -
well my abbey isa is held up as they won't open it and give me the account details until the transfer has happened from A&L. but A&L need the account number to transfer out the cahs.
GRRRRRR
they said they could not give me the account number over the phone but could ask someone to write it down and post it. But thats not come, shall have to phone AGAIN. its bugging me. :mad:0 -
Abbey seem to make it up as they go along. My son and I both have an Abbey Direct ISA open with £0 balances waiting on the transfer from Halifax, although they have gone on about receiving funds from my son within 30 days or else they will close it. never said that to me though.
We do have the account numbers now. However it has taken since 10th April to even get this far.
I'm not impressed with Abbey so far.0 -

Gosh, this seems almost the opposite from my experience.
I opened the account in a branch, with no new money just transfers, and was given the new account number at the same time.
Will have to see how the transfer goes on.
You could always go and picket St.Vincent Street!0 -

I handed in my application at a branch too. They just took it off me and said they would send it on.You could always go and picket St.Vincent Street!
Might well do that!
My other son's friend works there. I'll have to get him onto it.0 -
apparently the abbey man has never heard of a bank not doing the transfer.
and after 10 mins asking for my account number, apparently i can get it in the branch :nuts:0 -

For those already holding a different ISA for the 07/08 tax year and who just want to transfer.
An ISA can be opened at the branch, as long as no money is credited to it. Make them phone up their central office if they don't believe you.
This means that you can get the account number and sort code on the day. I got a receipt for a deposit of £0 !
The transfer form has to be sent away, but at least the account will be open.0 -
i'm not impressed with A&L or Abbey
money left my A&L ISA 22/5/07 but my Abbey ISA isn't even open yet and i don't even have an account number or anything!!!!!0 -
A&L changed their practice of not acting on written requests for transfers on 1st May - although when I phoned a week later and explained I had to phone to do the transfers the CS person didn't say the systems had changed. I was only told of the change (by two different CS people) later in the month. At the end of May their Direct ISA guide on their website still showed that for a transfer to take place a customer had to phone them.
I get the impression that they are snowed under and errors are happening.
So far in a month they have ignored all but one of the transfer requests made by phone but used a written request (sent by a bank where I am opening another account) to transfer the wrong amount.
When I phoned to find out what was going on I was told that errors were taking 1 to 2 weeks to fix as the department was busy.
My view is that the FSA or whoever gives them a licence should clamp down on management who under resource departments and continue to market their new Direct ISA while a mess is made of the accounts of existing customers.
If you have an A&L ISA account and hope to do a transaction - log on to check your account - especially if you are trying to do partial transfers.0
