Me too! And it's taken ages to transfer - I first applied to Abbey in March, I got a letter from Abbey to say they were requesting the transfer a couple of weeks ago, and yes I had to phone up A&L too.

So if I'd have gone into an Abbey branch and asked for the account to be set up, then phoned up A&L, it would all have happened much sooner. Never mind! We learn from these things...

Perhaps not. Abbey seem to be taking an age to sort things out. I applied on 10th April to transfer my ISA from the Halifax. I have yet to receive anything from Abbey.

Phoned up Saturday to start the transfer process from A&L to Kent Reliance. Used the 0800 number from a previous post, very helpful!

Just hope they get the transfer done soon! Left it a bit late as bonus expires today!!

phoned up today to transfer part of my ISA to Ruffler, they weren't sure if i could transfer a fixed amount or only previous years so girl had to ask but it was ok.

seemed to be straight forward except for all the security questions they asked of which some i couldn't answer!!!

they said it should go through within 2 weeks
  • I've just phoned up to do mine. The steps were a bit different from those listed above.

Or the much cheaper alternative :-

    0800 068 8638
    Option 2 current account
    Option 2 savings
    Option 2 Direct ISA
    Option 9 speak to operator
    Enter customer ID
    Enter security password
Option 9 wait for customer service agent.

After 'Option 2 Direct ISA' it went straight to entering customer number and security then 'Option 9' for operator. Had to wait for a good 5 - 10 mins but since its free wasn't that bothered!

Make sure you have you're current account number (if you have one) and national insurance number to hand as well as the isa account number as part of the security check.

I didn't have either of these with me so had to go hunting in my file twice for each of them, making the operator wait on the end of the phone for a change each time. Lucky for him I knew where they were so i didn't keep him waiting too long

Said it would take 7 - 14 days and both A&L and Abbey (new provider) should write to me when its gone through.

has anyone tried informing a&l by e-mail (through on-line banking) that you want to transfer to another provider?
It is unwise to pay too much but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better (John Ruskin - 19 ctry author, art critic & social reformer)

yes and they wont accept it.

you have to phone which isn't too much of a problem, especially if you use the 0800 number!

I phoned A&L last Saturday to arrange the transfer to Abbey. Money hasn't left my A&L account as yet - 1 week later.
