My transfer went out on May 5 and arrived in Abbey a few weeks later. Abbey have the 'arrival' date of May 5 on the online banking (I checked before it went down over the weekend) so it looks like I havent lost any interest in the process :)

I believe the banks still wait for the 'cheque' to clear though, so it may be a couple more details before it starts earning interest again.

I phoned A&L to request a transfer on Thursday 3rd May. The transfer has just shown up on my Internet banking, dated yesterday. Nothing received in the post yet.

Thanks to everyone on this subject! Husband and I tried to open a Direct ISA with Abbey on Friday.Had tried to phone local branch first but engaged constantly. Went to branch, where they told us they were busy and we needed an appointment!, but I asked to fill in the forms anyway. Forgot the A&L account numbers so had to phone them later. They phoned today(they were busy all Saturday too!) with new Direct ISA account numbers and sort codes.I have just phoned A&L-got through straight away-and they say 1 to 2 weeks for transfer!Fingers crossed...

I applied on 10th April. Account finally opened around 5th May. Still waiting on the transfer.

Son applied the same day. Finally opened last week - still awaiting transfer.

Quick update on our transfer from A&L to YBS.

As per post #48 it took A&L exactly 3 weeks to close the account and 8 days [including transit in the post and a bank holiday weekend] for YBS to credit it to our e-ISAs yesterday.
Letters arrived from YBS just now showing the accounts were credited with the payment as from 23-5-07 - meaning just 2 days loss of interest.
  • I rang up A&L today and they told me that they have recently changed their procedures, so you don't need to ring up to transfer from their Direct ISA.

They will now accept transfer forms from the ISA provider that you are transferring to.

They said that they had realised that it was causing their staff a lot more extra work with people ringing up to transfer, hence the change.

Edit: They are still accepting phone transfers at the moment, if you have already sent back the forms for your new ISA without the A&L deatails.
However, you have to specifically ask for this.
