    And just thought some of you may find this rings a bell....................

    An Minor Adaptation for Stitchers of Clement Moore's "A Visit From St. Nicholas"
    (Adapted by Kathleen Dyer)

    'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
    Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse;
    The stockings weren't hung yet, as they were still where
    I was frantically stitching them, pulling my hair;
    Quite unlike my children, each snug in a bed,
    While visions of mattresses danced in my head,
    In my sweat pants and T-shirt and old baseball cap,
    Drinking triple espressos, no time for a nap;
    When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
    I sprang from my chair to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash,
    Tripped over the tote bag, then threw up the sash.
    The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
    Gave the look of metallics to objects below,
    When, what to my sleep deprived eyes should appear,
    But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
    With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
    I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
    Gliding like silk thread his coursers they came,
    And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
    "Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
    On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!
    To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
    Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
    As floss scraps that before the wild hurricane fly,
    When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
    So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
    With the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.
    Then, losing my needle, I heard on the roof
    The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
    As I let my thread fall, and was turning around,
    Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
    He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
    And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;
    I snatched up my stitching and flung it far back,
    For fear of the soot on his clothes and his pack.
    His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
    His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
    His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
    And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;
    He looked like the chart I had bought for the reason
    Of stitching it up for the holiday season.
    He had a broad face and a little round belly,
    That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.
    He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
    And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;
    A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
    Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;
    He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work
    To fill all the stockings, but turned with a jerk.
    "And where are the stockings?" He looked down his nose.
    I handed them over, and blushed like a rose.
    He finished his work, to his team gave a whistle,
    And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
    But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
    "Get done early next year, don't wait 'til the last night!"

    Chicky - I love that 12 days of Christmas design. Might HAVE to invest in it now. You've been really busy finding things. The night before Christmas made me laugh.

    Off to do housework/shopping now, hubby starting to get annoyed with me!!!! Mustn't push my luck as he is normally so good.

    and came out of it............................. money neutral!!! - very much helped by my mum paying for the large food shop, a couple of meals and an attraction entry but i did pay for a few meals/ zoo entry/ kids rides etc in amusements etc. :j:j:j:j:j

  • Morning (just) stitchers

    Just a quick catch up with you all before we head off to visit my dear SIL who doesn't mind me stitching while we chat:D Am taking the last of my Xmas stockings for 2012 - minor panic last night when I couldn't find it having put it in a "safe place" while I stitched other things

    Shelly Hope you are feeling better today

    sweetcarer your blackwork design will look wonderful in the colours you have chosen especially on the vintage lavendar aida (I've got some of the linen in that shade and it is gorgeous)

    Welcome back chicky Great to hear that you had a lovely and well deserved break and well done for the money neutral achievement :money:
    Sorry for not checking the links on the first page first :o
    Love the Stitcher's 12 Days of Christmas and the different version of Night Before

    Ailsb You certainly are on a roll Your first fairy is lovely and probably looks even better in real life as the effect of the fabric doesn't really show in photos. Great bargains with the frames

    laura well done on persevering with the french knots. Like most things they become easier with practice although I still find bullion knots a real challenge

    blue eyed girlgood luck with the trip to York

    Flat eric I would always stitch on a bigger piece of fabric and then cut to size. You can mark the stitching area with thread or a vanishing pen. I would also add vilene to the back of the stitched pieces to give them extra stability before inserting in the holder, It will make a lovely present.
    The Just Cross Stitch Christmas Ornaments mag is really nice (I get one every year) but not worth getting for the LK design which is not as detailed as the free ones on her site
    Have never bought threads from Mr J Wood

    Ruth honey Hope you manage to fit in some stitching

    Enjoy the day everyone
  • Love the days of Xmas chicky and the verse, and well done on being money neutral.

    Back from football training, next is housework, then I've got to go and see the atop smoking people, library, bank, drop ds of to a party, then she is going to a sleep over, go to take eldest ds to trade in some computer games, tescos to get the Xmas sweeties, then burger king to get the boys some dinner, home and ironing, bedtime ect so might pick up a neddle when all that is done! Oh to be my husband and spend the afternoon doing what I want to do, just for once ! (can you tell he has annoyed me?)

    uh ohhh what's he done?

    Mine is off work AGAIN - this time it's cause his knee hurts :mad: so this will be yet ANOTHER 4-week pay month with only 3-weeks pay!!!

    So while me and DS1 have treked to ASDA and back he 'looked after' DS2. What this means is I have come back to him laid out on the sofa playing on the PS3......... where I am pretty sure he will stay for the rest of the day.

  • Ah my problems the golf went Thursday spent £40 going again today taking £50. And its not only the money either its the fact that with footie training Saturday AM and footie matches on a Sunday, Saturday afternoon is the only time we get as a family, and I end up runing around like a headless chicken trying to get everyone where they need to be and doing the shopping ect, whilst he is strolling round a 18 hole with his mates and then off to the pub, its every Saturday and it really seems unfair, but maybe I'm just being over sensetive? ok rant over!

  • Good afternoon

    Hope all are well. Got my material for my christmas card but I have mislaid my threads - hubby probably tidying again.

    Thank you all for your kind comments re: purplework. I have never done anything like this before but it looks amazing - think I will have to do two one for me and her. I like the idea of using only one colour so I can thread up a couple of needles and just go.

    Re the threads for 57p - cross stitch heaven (39p) and accross town stitching (40p) are each. I know you have to add postage.

    Well off to finish off my AOY exchange stitch - think what bookmark to do for the competition.

    Kind wishes to all

    sweetcarer ;)
    :j cross stitch forever, housework whenever :j
  • Hi all, may I return? :o

    I can't believe my last post on the old thread was 31st of March. I am trying to read this thread from the start, I must admit I started to give up on the other one back in April. I can't remember if I mentioned it but I started a new job back in Feb and basically it has taken over, the time I have/had free was taken up by overtime and coursework etc. I am still at the same job but I have been ebaying of late and pulled out all of my cross stitch stuff.

    I am going to pick up London again, finish the rose and start a mini Christmas thing :p

    I hope I can rejoin you, I see we have a few new members and I am glad that the majority of you still stitch :j
