Is anyone a fan of the Newton's law bear. For a time, he featured in World of Cross Stitch every month. Being the disorganised person I am, I have mislaid all my charts so wondered if you happen to have collected them whether you can tell me which World of Cross Stitch mag he started in and which Issue he finished. Also if you happen to have issue number and what design featured - that would be fab :T There were some I didn't want to stitch but quite a few I did really like and had on my imaginary to do list.

Don't know off hand the numbers and charts but will have a look in the magazines I can lay my hands in and let you know the patterns/issue numbers.

    Second question.
Would you spend £45 odd (plus postage) on a cross stitch kit for a friend for xmas. Its a lot for this kit but to buy the designs individually would cost around £11 each (and there are 12 of them). Likewise, would you buy aida or evenweave for the design (it is the calendar cats design by Peter Underhill).

Depends on how close you are to the friend. Do you normally spend this sort of money on your friend? If so then go for it. I'd go for the evenweave as it's got half and 1/4 stitches which are hard on aida. Have you thought about stitching another of his designs that wouldn't cost as much - if cost is an issue. Unless your friend knows what she/he wants then I'm sure any of the designs would be gratefully received.

Flateric - I have checked my magazines.

Ok, here's the list from the ones I have found:

Issue 181- You're irresistable - Newton holding a flower with a bee on his nose.
Issue 182 - Luck is where you find it - Newton sitting in a bed of clover holding up a 4 leaf clover.
Issue 183 - We wish you a messy christmas - Newton making a Christmas pudding/cake with mixing bowl.
    Issue 184 - CAN'T FIND
Issue 185 - it's coffee morning - Newton sitting down head on paw with sunglasses on (having a bad morning - possibly).

I'm sure oneone more organised than I am will be along shortly who can fill in the blanks and let you know when they started and ended.

Sorry can't find any others. This has made me think that I should cataloue what is in the magazines to make it easier to find charts. Maybe oneday.

I don't really stitch cards as I find that people throw them away with the other cards. I'd rather stitch pictures. Thinking that these could be stitch 2 or 3 in a row and put in a cheap frame as a gift.

You are very naughty posting a picture of the fairy. I really want to start stitching something similar for my cousin but I am being good and making sure I finish my card for the exchange first. Think I should have used a different pattern for this - it's taking me ages but doesn't look a lot. Also concerned that it's not going to fit the aperature. Anyway enough about the card.

I plan to stitch a third cupcake and put them in a triple frame. (It's not easy to find a nice double aperture for some reason?)
I don't often stitch them either for that reason. Plus, I get cards made up with a picture of the children to send to family, and those are the only people I would consider sending a handmade card to.
On the other hand my godmother is chuffed to bits with anything I make her, and even keeps my non stitched handmade cards lol.

I had to stitch the fairy while I remembered :rotfl: I had planned for months to stitch it and kept forgetting. Plus I like to have little projects on the go along with big ones. My xmas card is still on the go, I will take it with me to my mums later :D

Hope you feel better soon (((hugs)))

I am looking at my design and wondering now if it is good enough. Its chosen now, I have sorted out my threads just waiting on some material to do it on - will blame it on hubby I asked his opinion and said it looked good.:rotfl:

Aw you shouldn't feel like that, I'm sure it will be lovely and appreciated by whoever receives it :)

Flower of Scotland- can you tell me where you got that sampler from, im after looking at the girl one, cos i really like that traditional look.

It's from The Historical Sampler Company - hope this link works

This should take you to the home page where they mention that they currently have 10% off the whole range.

Go to Birth Samplers via menu on the left to find the sampler I have and the girl version
  • sweetcarer, i totally agree with louise, we are all stitchers so will aprechiate the time thought and effort that has gone into stitching a card of any design
    SPC~12 ot 124

In a world that has decided that it's going to lose its mind, be more kind my friend, try to Be More Kind
  • Good morning stitchers Just popping in for a quick cappuccino....

Cross Stitch Heaven is a lovely site and I have found the service to be excellent - perhaps it should be added to our list at the beginning of the thread? I adore the hand dyed fabric she sells but am trying to resist temptation at the moment

Maria Well done on finishing the coasters

Caroline Brilliant news about hubby's job. Also thank you for the email about the "rules" of the exchange. I have a suggestion - when we post our photos of our cards in December should we include details of the design - magazine (name and issue number, free kit, designer of chart, own design etc ? I just think that if we don't there will be loads of emails saying "where did you get that from?" (because we are all nosy :D - well when it comes to cross stitch we are)

JCS I also finally decided on what I am stitching for the card exchange and sorted out the threads and fabric. Could have been half stitched by now if I hadn't kept changing my mind :D

beg I am sure that we will all appreciate and treasure whatever has been stitched for us. Hope you do find something to stitch for Project 12 (as Louise named it)

Louise Love the purple fairy (I can't remember who you said you were stitching it for).
The cupcakes are wonderful and will look stunning in a 3 aperture frame. Which other one are you going to stitch?

Ailsb Hope you feel better soon. I agree about not stitching cards for people who might throw them out. That's why I was so keen on the exchange here - it's really only other stitchers who appreciate the effort that goes into them. I have a collection of hand made cards which I display each year and have also made some into decorations. I would never throw them away

sweetcarer I'm sure your card will be lovely

mrsmp Gardening ??? you must be in a drier part of the UK as my garden is almost under water (but at least my house is ok)

Shelly Hope you feel better soon - at least well enough to be able to do a bit of recuperative stitching

FE I can't help with the details of the Newton Bear charts though I may have most of the magazines
I think the kit is probably good value for money compared to buying the kits individually but personally I wouldn't spend that much on a friend's present. But it depends what you normally do. I would always go for evenweave and for Heritage charts it is particularly important as the designs usually have fractional stitches.
Hope you enjoy your stitchy club at work

OK coffee finished - back to work
