Chicky - good luck with DOH and your deadline. Just remember its a self imposed deadline, I'm sure your friend will be thrilled to receive it in a week or so time. Don't stress too much about it.

Soulie - hope tomorrow goes well.

Cornish - may have missed it but what pattern are you doing. Majority of them tell you to find the centre of your fabric and the centre of the chart and start from there. Depending on what your stitching it might be easier to find a different place to start, say the bottom right or top left. Hope I havent confused you more. Welcome by the way.

Off topic - we were bought a 2 night hotel voucher for our anniversary that needs to be used bh 30th April. Can anyone recommend an area to go to (not London- go there quite a bit) which is within 2/3 hours journey from Birmingham. Struggling for ideas this time of year. Its only for the 2 of us so doesn't have to be anyhing to keep a teenager amused.

  • Hi and thank you Ailsb

I would say come to Cornwall for your weekend its always pretty . But at the mo all I can say is its very wet cold and windy :(

My pattern is a photo of my mutt that I got converted to xstitch on a website . Maybe abit adventurous for a first project but I'm game .
Its 12x12 25912 stich count and my sheet of Aida is more than big enough so I'm gonna aim for the center and if I end up being abit off it shouldn't matter as it will need to be trimmed at the end ..

How much spare cloth round the finished item is best to leave ? Just so I know how much I have to safely play with

Usually I would say Cornwall too - but what about Cheltenham, or somewhere else in the Cotswolds, Cardiff, Hay-on-Wye (especially if you like books), erm, Leamington spa, Warwick, Oxford or Cambridge (lots to see in all of these)..
  • Ok so next time im not using a kit so im going to need thread of course and the pattern is bigger than I'm used to.

How do you store all of your threads?
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

TMIF - thanks for the suggestions Oxford is out, my Aunt lives ghere so we can visit there for free. Cotswolds is a good kdea will have a lok later.

Comrnwall - its best to leave 2 inches all the way round the design plus a further 2 inches to allow for framjng, particularly if you are going to try to do it yourself. Might look a lot but it sokn goes. If you don't intent on using a mount or leaving a gap between your design and the frame then you can reduce it down to 2 inces all the way round. So for a design 12 x 12 you'd need either 16 x 16 or 20 x 20 depending on framing. Hope thag helps.

Winnie - a lot of us stojre our threads on floss bobbins and then in boxes. Can't link as on tablet and don't know how but have a look on sewandso or crosstown and search on storage. The box is on offer at sewandso for £3.68 and the plastic bobbins are £1.10.

Off to be a lady of leisure today and have nails and hair done. Also popping to local needlework shop as ran out of 2 colours last night whivh I need.

  • Hello everyone!
I’m sorry that I haven’t posted for a long time. A health condition flared up on me so was spending minimal time on the computer. My stitching hasn’t made much progress either. Never mind, I’m starting to feel better now so life is getting back to normal.
Cornish – I tend to leave a 4 inch border all around my work when it’s a big piece then if I’ve miscounted or something goes wrong I’ve got a bit of breathing space! Also, if your pattern is a continuos block of chart I would start on the first page on the top left hand side. Then work your way down in squares as I find that easier for me to count. But everyone has their own way of doing things! Trial and error is the way forward….
A wonderful lady on here (I’m terribly sorry to forget your name!) gave some excellent advice – make a copy of the chart and then cross off each square as you go! Sounds simple but makes a HUGE difference to me!
I buy the Sunday times every week as that has a great TV page known as ‘Culture’. Gives good listings.
Lastly, I’m really sorry to hear that so many of you are going through tough times at the moment. My thoughts are with you all. I truly hope that we all get some light at the end of whats going on in our lifes!

    Hi ladies.

    Mumto2boys. Lovely update, looks cute.

Soulie. Hope all goes well today.

Winnie. I usually just buy kits just because I like them and to have the pleasure of stitching them, I don't ever buy them with the thought in mind of where they can go once stitched.

I have given a couple as presents in the past, one of them was my first largeish design I started over 10 years ago and finished in 2010. Then a cousin announced her IVF had worked last year so I found a kit my Mum had given me years ago (she bought it to stitch herself, decided it looked too hard and gave it to me) stitched it up and gave it as a present from Mum and I.
The only kits I have bought especially as a present were 2 Flower Fairies that I stitched for my Mums 60th birthday.
I have done a Rennie Mackintosh type wedding design for hubby and I with full intention of framing it and hanging it on the wall......it's rolled up in the cupboard :o

I store my threads in small zip lock bags bought on ebay with a sticker on each with the brand and number. I do this for full skeins and also the decent sized bits left over from kits. I don't have that many as I usually use kits so this works well for me.

Stitcher. Welcome back, hope you continue to feel better.

As for me and off topic.
Pixie is back at the vets today, hopefully they will take all the stitches out and she can go out again.
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:
