  • I think I'm finally able to post photos, so hopefully I'll do this right!
This should be the Hollywood montage design and my first update. I've been working on it for about two months along with another design.

World of Cross Stitching Issue 200

Free Gift 1, Margaret Sherry Birthday Bunny card kit - Adorable! It does have that awkward style of backstitch (we need to come up with a name for that lol) but there isn't too much of it. This is going on my To Do list.

    See below

Free Gift 2, Sampler chart book - Quite a god gift actually, samplers aren't y thing, but these are pretty and some motifs could be used on their own.

    See below

Fizzy Moon (2 bears with flowers and a glass of fizz) - Again, not really my thing, but a nice design. Would make a good engagement stitch.

Not keen on the Fizzy Moon design. I don't think I could face all that back stitch and to be honest these designs all look very samey (there was another design in Cross Stitch Crazy recently)

Floral Fancy (teapot and rose) - Really not for me.

Teapot is nice but don't like the rose. Too much else to stitch however - doubt will get added to the list.

pg 24 (adverts)Michael Powell has released a new range called 'Postcards',7x5 designs. there is a picture of Tuscany there. That one isn't one I would do but I will google the rest of the range

Interesting - shame there isn't a pic of the other new MP designs

I do like the Sailing Boat kit featured on the bottom of the page from Derwentwater.

Emergency ABC - Good that they have included numbers with this as well, I'm always looking for ideas for boys cards

    not for me.

Heart and Home, no place like home hanging - Colourful, but not to my taste.

Not a design that appeals may be if it had a cat in it ...

Craft Xtra - Possibly the ugliest flowers I have ever seen in my life....

    Odd !

Pastimes & Hobbies - LOVE the 'Do not disturb, stitcher at work' (great size for a coaster) Loads of good small designs, I have earmarked a few for cards.

I like the do not disturb stitcher also. The gardening one would make a nice gift tag - although not keen on including the "I love gardening text" Overall some nice designs here.

Gadget Pocket - Great idea, pity I can't sew :o

I like this - I can't sew either !! The designs featured are appealing.

Reader Story - Who posted the picture a while back of the canvas bag with all the DMC colour range stitched on it? Cos that's who the story is about :D:T

    Wow!

JE Kokeshi Dolls - I don't normally like these, but it's a very bright design and the sentiment is lovely.

Something about these is appealing but not sure it will make the "to stitch list"

Girly Cards - Exactly as described - girly :D

These are nice but I am really not keen on the card mounts they have been displayed in.

Cat Bookmarks - My apologies to the designer but I really don't like these

I do like these and they will be going on my must stitch this. They remind me of a similar cat bookmark design that sew and so sell that has been on my wish list for yonks.

I'm cross the designs contain fractional stitches as I would have liked to stitch on plastic canvas. I don't know if I have the threads needed but I think it would be fine to stitch the cats as they are and then perhaps use a variegated thread to fill in the background?

Cupcake of the bliddy month - Thought these had finished??:rotfl:
I really don't get these designs?

Blackwork Beauty - Flower in blue blackwork.

I like the idea of doing the back stitch but I'm not sure about the flower nor the blue thread used.

The mouse design featured on the crossword page is cute and would make a nice card.
Next month - the free kit is cute and the Happy Springtime design looks appealing. Not sure on the other designs featured.

I thought WOXS might be waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday and so checked on here quickly yesterday afternoon to see if anyone else had received their copy and found your post !

I have been looking forward to receiving this issue and it mostly doesn't disappoint.

I LOVE the Margaret Sherry free kit although I'm disappointed the thread numbers haven't been listed as I do prefer to stitch from my own stash - I always tend to get in a pickle when sorting threads and always worry I will never have enough.

The Helen Phillipps Sampler Chart Book is nice and the ABC 123 sampler featured on the front cover is probably by favourite. I've added the rest of my comments above.

In summary I am very pleased with this issue. There are several nice designs and there is also lots of cross stitch chat and features.
  • Thanks *Louise*. I've actually had the kit for about ten years, so since I was a teenageer. I used to do alot of Am-dram around that time and I've always been a film lover, so I just loved the glamour of the design. My mum bought me it after I saw it in a magazine, but I hadn't realised how big it was ("13x18") and it kinda put me off. My boyfriend and I bought our own flat a wee while ago so now I'm determined to get it done for our living room!

Phew, sorry. You probably didn't want to know all that...

  • Julie its a Fab u lous design and I love it. It looks amazing completed! Well done! I second what others have said, while primarily being all about cross stitch and craft we also love a good natter and this often involves off topic info.

On the subject of OT can anyone help please...

My laptop touchpad is being really erratic and the buttons are not responding! it works better with a plug in mouse but that is just annoying. Anyway it started doing it last night out of the blue. Any ideas what it could be? I checked the drivers and they are up to date and I tried a fix involving turning everything off and disconnecting the power and battery but that did not work either :(
I ran a scan using malwarebytes.com and comodo, neither picked anything up. Please advise me, Joel is studying and is less than helpful and has no idea - He likes Linux instead. :(
  • Afternoon all :)

Subtle-minx - Have you tried cleaning the panel with a computer screen wipe (or in my case a baby wipe :o - as it has happend to me a few times and thats all I have to hand)?
It could be a build up of dirt (I have 2 kids under 7 with sticky fingers!) or something that is affecting the sensitivity.
Try giving it a gentle wipe down and see if it improves, but don't over wet it as moisture can have the same effect.

    HTH x

Julie0511 - That is a lovely piece, great progress! As for chatter, we love nothing better on here :) (Said by the Queen of Off Topic! :rotfl:) it is nice to know the story behind a piece.

Well not much stitching going on here, I heard that a girl who lived next door to us has just given birth to a baby boy :T So have been making a card for her to welcome him in to the world.

Hope you are all well and busy stitching away!
