Just popping in to mention an amazing facebook group sweetcarer found and pointed me in the direction of.

Xstitch for those impacted by the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting

it's really hit home to me as DS1 is not much younger then the poor children who lost their lives.
We're both signing up to stitch a few squares - you can dedicate them to specific children/ adults or just wereever the designer feels they best fit.

There is no minimum/ maximum amount you can 'donate'.

they have lots of free designs that artists have donated for use.

    rules

Material- 14ct aida- all will be accepted, we prefer to keep the size of the stitch uniform.

    Colors for the aida:

    cream
    white
    pastels
please refrain from using any dark colors

Sizes: 7x7 and 9x9 stitching space- overall size should be 10x10 or 12x12 stitching needs to fit within these dimensions- sorry for any confusion and hope this clarifies

Signature- please put your name or initials, whichever you are most comfortable with and where you are from. This can be anywhere on the piece. Just please make sure to leave enough room on the border for the piece to be made into a quilting block

Time frame- right now we are thinking about a deadline for August, but this could change depending on everyones status.

If you aren't on facebook then let me know you are interested and I will post on your behalf.

Thanks for posting this Chicky. I am doing 7 squares - one for each of the adults and an overall quilt for the school. I am going to be doing a free pattern from http://kincavelkrosses.wordpress.com/ - and as its 7 squares I am doing it in the colours of the rainbow, this is the pattern I am doing http://kincavelkrosses.wordpress.com/2011/02/05/assisi-love-squared/

    thats gorgeous SC.

I've spotted an oh so cute bug/ bee design on www.veeandco.com which I would love to stitch for the little bugs (this is what I call my children).
she has posted offering free PDF's of her designs for this project so I've emailed to see if the motifs (without text) would be the right size.

  • Chicky i dont 'do' facebook, but the class i lunchtime for are this age and i dont want to imagine how awful it would be for them all to dissapear in such a horrific way so i will certainly do a square or two, can i post them to you with a donation towards your final postage,
are the sizes in inches or cm? and i take it the first measurements are stitched area and the second set overall size of the fabric

thank you for showing us the link
    SPC~12 ot 124

course you can, tho postage wouldn't be necessary - they won't add much to my own costs, thank you - or as and when I know the address I will pass it on, that way we write royal mail out of at least 1 equation for loosing them **goes to see if she can set herself up a document on facebook as a reminder of MSE participants***

    I read them as inches.
So you can choose a 7"x7" design or 9"x9" but your square needs to be 10"x10" or 12"x12" to give them room to work when sewing them together.

(please correct me if I am wrong SC)

I've signed up as well, can't even begin to imagine what the families are going through, my youngest nephew is that age xx
  • MANY MANY thanks to Vee @ https://www.veeandco.com for sending me a perfect bug and bee useable motif.

thanks to all showing support.....now to find a few more hours. I figure even if I can do 1 a month that's 7 by beginning of August....although I will be happy to manage 4 (2 of each) as I must get DO Homes completed.
