Cross Stitch Cafe - stitching out of 2012 and into 2013...

  • Thank you for the welcome replies :)

    I put a load of things on my birthday wish list cross stitch wise and I think my OH ordered it all:

    Small Snap Frame (Because I hate holding the material)
    DMC Storage Boxes (Because my threads are all in sandwich bags in my sewing box right now)
    Floss Bobbins (Because I want them all nice and neat in the above boxes)
    Osprey Cross Stitch Kit (Where we love to go on holiday we like bird watching and finding the Ospreys)
    White Iridescent Aida (It's sparkly)
    Some more Aida 14ct
    Blank Coasters (Doing them for Christmas)

    I've also put on the list some Anchor threads off Ebay, as DMC seem a bit dearer to buy in bulk. (Right now I only have threads from the market:o)

    The frame and something else just came in the post, pity I can't have them until Sunday, they've been hidden from me now.

    Some pictures:

    First thing I ever cross stitched a few years ago:

    Some more early things:

    There's a load more small things that I cross stitched early, some went away for gifts and others are most probably packed away somewhere in a safe place that I can't find now.

    This is what I'm doing at the moment:

    Slightly paranoid about putting that picture up in case my sister or her OH sees it, though i highly doubt either of them would ever come on this section of the board so I might be safe as it's a secret I'm doing it for them.

    Not finished obviously. I started filling in the empty areas with white as you can see at the top, my OH said it would be better, do you think this needs it all over?

    As you can see I tend to do quick designs at the moment so the Osprey kit that I will have for my birthday soon will be the biggest thing I've ever done.

    Dragonfly - that wedding sampler looks great. I wouldn't stitch the background in white, it'll take forever, be really hard under the wording that you've already done and (in my opinion) won't make the finished piece any nicer. You could do some backstitch in black or a dork colour round the bells and other things to make them stand out more, and frame it nicely. But I don't think it needs more than that.

    Thank you for the get well comments lol - leg is getting much better already, just getting sick of the 'hopalong' comments now :rotfl:

    BUT...it has given me lots of stitchy time (yay) and as of this lunchtime I am on to the LAST box of my project 12 (Eleven Pipers piping) :j:j:j

    Sk00bie - thanks for the 'cake' instructions :D

    Dragonfly - Please don't fill in any more of that white! You will get bored with it sooner than later. Plus when you get to the wording you have stitched and try and use the same holes it will make it look a bit wonky.
    I would extend the two rows all the way round to make a border and leave it like that.

    Ps - your sister is getting married on my birthday :T:T:T

    Thank you. I was going to do one with more details on that is in one of my old cross stitching magazines but wanted something quicker to do. I didn't know whether this one looked a little bare and boring, I want them to like it.
    Thanks for your input on the white stitches, so glad I don't have to do it all. Will do the back stitching and hope to finish it by next week so will put another picture up. :)

    Thanks for the input as well. I was already getting bored with it, haven't picked it up since last week thinking I had to do all that white. Good idea about just doing two rows all the way around, I will do that.

    Well hope it will be a good birthday for you and a good wedding for them. :)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Still don't know whether to do the other one as well as this wedding sampler, the one with more details and colours on, or is that overkill doing two wedding samplers? Just don't want them to think it's bland and a bit empty looking.
    Thanks for the sew and so heads up CHICKY :j I really do not need any more stash or have any pennies to fund more purchases but it won't hurt to have a browse..... It would be so tempting to order the complete dmc/anchor thread collections - sadly one can only dream....
    I hope you are feeling better. :)
    Skobie, I used to play my brother's playstation someties. I can't remember the name of the game but it involved driving round and lots of shooting. Mr brother used to get very amused at how rubbish I was at it!!
    Everyone is quiet tonight...busy stitching or is life getting in the way? :)
    I have been making more stockings and snowman choc bars today, my little christmas fayre stash is coming along nicely. Going to clean out the kids' bedrooms tomorrow *braces self* and reward myself with some crafting afterwards :D
    Yes that was it! :)
    I've been busy spending my evenings watching masterchef! Too tired to do any stitching :(
  • No stitching for me tonight Louise - been to aerobics, had tea and now I'm crashed out on sofa catching up with Corrie :).
    Put a few more finishing bits on exchange card this afternoon. It's getting closer to the posting day :j
    Take care everyone
