Morning ladies. Ventured to Hobbycraft yesterday - actually an OK visit. No latest WOCS though so need to pick that up today. GOt some mini kits and a larger ANchor one of a lovely cottage surrounded by flowers. DIsplay said 20% off all kits but the receipt showed some of the smaller ones were either a third or even half off. If the needlcraft stuff wasn't upstairs (a pain as I had my DS In his pushchair) I Might have gone and got some more!!

Busy day today with DD so not sure if any stitching time.

I thought about 1 over 1 on 25 count but my eyesight isn't up to it. So I got some pregridded 18 count aida. The guidelines have been absolutely fabulous so far - there would have been many mistakes without them. (There have still been a few but shhhh, only I know they're there!)

I bought the recommended threads and I knew I'd probably need some more because I'm stitching on larger count fabric, but even so - I've done 2 1/2 pages out of 36 and already used 2 skeins of black. The pattern said only 8 were needed for the whole thing. I think not!

Mind you, it's going to take so long to finish that I think I'll just buy them as I go along. Anything left over can go back in the stash.

1 on 25ct on a massive project like an HAED - would I heck as like!!:rotfl: I would never finish it and it would drive me crazy (and quite possibly blind!):o

Thanks for this girls! I think I'm going to be brave (or really stupid!) and give 1 over 25ct a go  Will do a test bit and see if I like 1 or 2 strands.
I was also thinking about buying the thread as I go along but knowing me I'd mess up the timing of ordering and run out and then be miffed I couldn't stitch until they arrived :rotfl: With that in mind I'm going to order everything, probably with December's pay packet! I'll need 122 skeins of threads all together!

Have you seen this - 25hpi magic guide evenweave? Might help you -

    http://www.cross-stitch-heaven.co.uk/25ct-evenweave-dmc---magic-guide---white-4470-p.asp

I got a wee sample piece a while back so might try it instead of 28hpi for a project I have in mind

    Thanks sweetcarer :)
I found this on sew and so's website too and thought yay, That will be great! But if I stitch over 1 fabric thread though the markers will be every 20 squares, not every 10. I suppose it might still help. I was planning to buy 25ct lugana as I like the softness and mark it out with fishing line, do you know how the DMC fabric compares? Let us know how your mini project goes :)

Glad you had a successful trip to HC! I still haven't managed to go yet, maybe at the weekend :A

Chicky - I'm a COD widow too! Or FIFA or whatever else he's playing :rotfl: Don't really mind though, he sits and plays and I sit and stitch and we natter back and forth. He tried to get me to play the old COD but I was rubbish :D

Ruth - Love your Christmas ABC and the sparkly fabric. I think I'm going to have to wait for next year to do it myself though =.

No stitching for me last night either, didn't get in from taking mum to the airport and going to the shops til gone 9.30. Only enough time for me to grab dinner and I had to head to bed! Was hindered by the fact I fell out of my parent's front door on the way to the airport and have hurt my foot. Meant the shops took ages as I hobbled around. :rotfl: I did to get all the stuff ready for OHs birthday. Here is his cakeless cake made mainly of sweets!

    th_photo-5-2.jpg

Actually there is a thin layer of cake underneath to hold up the fingers, but I can eat that bit :rotfl: Thankfully foot is much better this morning, am glad I'm borrowing my mums car while she's away though cause it's an automatic and I don't think I'd manage with mine.

Eek, huge post sorry! Have a great day all :)

  • Ruth_honey - tree decs look great. Good start with xmas sampler.

sk00bie - hope your foot isn't too painful this morning. Cakeless cake looks great btw.

chicky - hope you feel a bit better this morning too.

Washing just about ready to finish - had planned on hanging it out but it is quite dank and miserable here albeit fogless atm. Looks as though its going to be another indoor drying day :(

    Take care everyone

Also bought a snow globe, although I'm not sure if it'll fit a cross stitch or not. Search 'shot2Go' to see what they've got this year.

I googled and realised that I already have their baubles (bought them in Asda last year) I might give them to the kids to fill and make in stead of stitching for them.

    That...is...brilliant!!!:T

You have given me an idea......I'm going away for a weekend in December and one of the bosses has come up with the idea of having a 'cake-off' to be judged after christmas dinner. If I used Christmas themed sweetsthat would be so much more fun to produce (and still with cake underneath so it's not cheating lol):rotfl:

Thanks all for your comments on the cake :)

For info Louise (and anyone else whos interested)

    It was really quick to produce, only took 45mins to assemble and used;

    half a pack each of;
    haribo starmix
    haribo halloween jellies
    haribo pinballs
    buttons
    milky bar buttons

    3x packs mini chocolate digestives

about 3 packs of the strawberry straws sweets for the dividers and (the ultimate laziness) 1 Dr Oetker icing-in-a-can to stick on the fingers! Oh and 1 and a half packs of each type of finger.

All together cost less than a tenner, bargain :money:

( I cheated and used 2 of these underneath the sweets as I was really short on time :rotfl: )

In stitchy news, have spent all morning adding things to my sew and so wishlist, it's about 10 pages long now :rotfl:

  • Just time for a quick catch up while I have a coffee (in the cafe :D)

    catwoman Those kits are spectacular

Louise Hope leg is less painful and that you are managing some stitchy time while recuperating. A friend of mine had a similar experience recently in that she fell over in the foyer of the hotel when on holiday and everyone assumed she had been drinking. Very unfair and adds insult to injury (literally)
    Love your crafty bits

ejs I know what you mean about dark aida being hard on the eyes.

nmm lovely update and good news about Tikaani - hope it is a permanent improvement

chicky hope you feel better soon

23rdspiral so sorry to read about your post - it may be an old saying but "misery loves company" seems to be true. So called friends who can turn like that aren't worth your time

sweetcarer Your DH must have been devastated with the outcome of his thoughtful gesture. Hope that some of the aida is useable

ailsb I sort of hope you do get some stitching done today though I think it is very depressing when voter turn out is low

skoobie Lovely kit and much more manageable. I am also on a no stitchy spend at the moment. I hope to keep this up until the January sales when I will have some Christmas money to spend :D
Have you considered buying a cone of black DMC if you need a lot for your HAED project - it will probably last you a lifetime. I over 1 can be challenging though with a good magnifier and lamp it can be done. I've got a sample piece of the 25 count magic grid evenweave which I would be happy to send to you (it's the same as sweetcarer mentioned so only small)
    The cakeless cake is fabulous

b e g Of course getting out the fabric counts as progress :D

ruth honey Love your updates. What a bargain those star frames were - will be looking out for them in January

Hugs to all who need them and happy stitching to everyone
