  • Thankyou for the warm welcome.

I have a Westie dog so I think my next cross stitch may involve one of those too. I'd also be interested if anyone finds a good pattern for one.

I'm wondering if any of you can recommend a good cross stitch book. One that shows how to do all the different stitches as well as having some good patterns.

    Thank you xx

    Hi Georgia and welcome

I have thought for a long time that this design of a Westie by John Clayton for Heritage Designs is really cute

As it is quite an old chart you may be able to find a better price on Ebay

As for books there are lots and you can buy secondhand versions at reasonable prices on Amazon. Are you interested in other counted thread stitches to go with cross stitch or in needlepoint stitches? Some are the same of course

Georgia - Welcome to the forum :D Sorry I can't reallyhelp regarding a book as I don't use them often, and I have picked up all my info on various stitches from magazines or on here :T

I am feeling crafty today so going to make a start on some Xmas fayre stuff this afternoon and will take my stitching to my sisters tonight. She is having a phsychic evening at her house and needs to make up the numbers. I have been to a couple of these things before but I'm yet to be convinced, other people seem to get loads of interesting comments and messages, I never do. Maybe I'm just difficult :rotfl:

Tying in with the discussion the other day - Just spotted on Martins twitter column on the right side of my page that a stranger has given the little boy with cerebal palsy £500 to replace his comet gift vouchers (as was predicted) I would love to have plenty of spare money to be able to do something like that :)

  • :hello: Georgia - welcome to the [STRIKE]madhouse[/STRIKE] Cafe. :D

Mrs F - like the e&ay westie cushion.

fos - I like the westie with red background at Black Sheep Wools. The John Clayton one is nice too depending on the colour you were wanting.

    **OFF TOPIC**
Been to Mr. A's this morning and there is sale of George stuff - a lot with 50% off. Got a few tops for about £5 - £6 each.

Microwave has gone a bit temperamental - so spotted one last night on Mr. S's website (800w 20ltr) - having it delivered to store later in the week for less than £40. :j

No stitching done yesterday and so far none today :( - fingers crossed for later.

    Wet and windy here today

**OT**, for those that know of Tikaani our puppy, she's the reason for not being here much. She's had a couple more seizures since i last posted, one of them was quite bad as she ended up with fluid on her lungs. She is completely over that now though and back to her usual playful self. She has been put on Phenobarbital but the side effects are quite scary, thankfully she isn't showing any yet as its a low dose, we really hope she grows out of it as the meds seem worse than the fits :(

Hello, I've been reading these cross stitching threads for a long time now and decided that I would post (though am still reading through this one on page 41 at the moment and love looking at everyone's cross stitching).

It's my birthday this month and I'm trying to choose some cross stitching things I want to put on my list.

I'm putting this kit on my list (without the spaces): http :// www. qualityneedlecraft.co. uk/ourshop/ prod_2188918-Osprey-in-Flight-John-Clayton-Cross-Stitch. html - Haven't done anything this big before though as mainly just do smaller patterns.

I'm also putting a plastic snap lap frame on my list, but not sure whether to get the large or small one? :
    Large - http: //www. randrframes.co.uk/?page=store&item_no=HFF0140
    Small - http: //www. randrframes.co.uk/?page=store&item_no=HFF0120
Most of the things that I stitch are smaller rather than bigger, but the Osprey above is 34-34cm.

I'm also looking for somewhere to get some Aida from for a decent price?
Is this one a good deal? : http: //www .ebay.co.uk/itm/14-COUNT-AIDA-SPECIAL-OFFER-size50x75cm-LARGE-WHITE-/260557875116?pt=UK_Crafts_CrossStitch_RL&hash=item3caa75a7ac

Also I'm looking to get some Coasters to do some Christmas cross stitching in, would the acrylic ones be okay to put hot drinks on?

Thank you in advance for any replies to my questions. :)

Is it just cross stitch stitches or embroidery stitches you are looking to learn?

  • Hello dragonfly and welcome.

I have the clip frame, the smaller of the 2 and I love it. Thank you Louise for recommending it, I know Louise does big heaven and earth designs on hers, so I don't think you will need the bigger one.

Aida I always get from sew & so and you can get your coasters from there also and quite possibly the kit you want aswell and also your clip frame, if you sign up for the newsletter, which is on side the home page a little way down you get a 5% discount

If you are looking for threads you can't go wronge with across town stitching, louise the owner is really helpful if you have any questions and she does special deals if you buy in 50, 100 or I think 200 lots, the aida on here is also a very good price

  • Hi All

I think the tags/colour swatchs are a great idea but nothing I think I would use...

Alis, I found this kit and this kit. I tried to find a free chart but I couldn't find one big enough to make into a cushion :o

    Welcome to Georgia and Dragonfly

Nmm, great progress, shame you can't share your xmas cards ;) :rotfl: Sorry to hear about your dog, fingers crossed here that she grows out of it.

    Christmas cards done :T
