did contemplate going to the shops again today but have decided to finish off my xmas shopping online. Buses are only every hour and the weather can't make up its mind so I think I will stay in. Will have a look at my knitting soon and see if it survived my wine goggles attempts at unpicking to save the dropped stitch :rotfl:0

Good morning stitchers. It is bright and sunny here which is always a bonus in November.
Hope the various pets were OK last night - I expect there will be more fireworks tonight and Monday though most of the organised displays I have seen advertised were last night. We kept the curtains open for a couple of hours as we could see a lot of the local display but from the warmth of home
Thank you for all the comments about Ruby's stocking. Yesterday I cut out the fabric and Vilene wadding for the Shepherd's Bush stocking and am hoping to get to the sewing machine this afternoon to sew it together.
I am not getting on at all well with my Christmas Cheer project for Project 12. After going wrong and unpicking I am now missing one of the threads - and it's an overdyed thread so not easily replaced.
I may switch to finishing this as my 12 12 12 project though I could perhaps finish it for 10 11 12

Sorry for quality of photo. I have cut some navy with green holly leaves fabric for the backing and binding of the SB stocking and have enough left to make this into a hanging ornament
mrsmp So pleased your angel will be ok
Thanks for all the magazine reviews - I really enjoy reading what you think and how it differs from person to person
sweetcarer Purplework is stunning. Sorry you are having such a bad time - wish I could do something practical to help but can only offer virtual support.
Dinner last night was homemade pea and ham soup which had been cooking in the slow cooker all day. Served with crusty bread and followed by fresh fruit salad and ice cream so virtually no cooking time meant more stitching time :j
FE Love the slippers - I am very fond of ladybirds. Not an active knitter but pom pom braid would be a quick and easy finish if you could get the right colours (or would you make them from left over wool?)
JCS Thanks for the interesting link. My issue would be where to display it IF I stitched it - don't think DH or a lot of my family when visiting would be very impressed :rotfl: Also didn't like his face
Happy Sunday everyone0 -
Louise Just realised I didn't post a picture of City of Angels - are you still interested ?0

tellmeitsfriday wrote: »It was absolutely gorgeous. Cheap too. Made half the size one he did, and there's enough for three pieces. I will add photo tomorrow if u like.
Chicken was £3 for 4 pieces and I used 2 for three slices. I used mushrooms instead of leek, a bit of bacon, a bit of onion, a bit of milk, a carrot (I don't like leek) and a spoonful of mustard.
Yummy and simple x
Sounds good - might try and make it one day - been looking for a good chicken pie(ish) receipe.
Just printed off some vouchers for a$da - only got £6 off but better than nothing - half my receipts didn't have anything
Looks not a bad day out there tho cold. After shopping come home put shopping away, bring in washing, and chill with some stitching - might make a nice meal too. Relax and try to have a shower tonight before going back to work tomorrow - joy! Dreading what I will come accross - big pile like last time - makes me wonder is it worth taking leave.
Keep well and warm girls - till next time
sweetcarer:j cross stitch forever, housework whenever :j0 -
Quite foggy and murky here this morning but the frost is clearing from earlier on. Looked through patterned glass of bathroom this morning and everything looked so white I was convinced we'd had a fall of the white stuff but thankfully it was just a thick frost.
Spent a little while browsing through this site this morning. I think their stuff is a little bit different but didn't take too much notice of prices as I am NOT going to be tempted. There are a few little freebies and the 'how to' section has a couple of pretty little things in. Will not be held responsible for any additions to anyones stashes.
Catching up on chores this morning so that I can stitch a bit this afternoon.
Stay warm everyone.

Added my comments to Louise'sWORLD OF COSS STITCHING - Issue 197
Free Gift - 1- Somebunny to love card kit, quite cute. 2- Lili of the Valley 'decorating the tree'. t's a cute enough desing but I'm not too keen on all the white used.
Bit too cute for me unless I was stitching it for a gift. Like that you can download the picture mount. Agree that the tree would be better in green
Warm Hearts,Forever firends design - Pretty basic and straightforward stitch. Would be easy to make and put in a frame as a quick gift.
I like FF bears and have stitched them in the past so could be tempted by this but not at the moment
Pg15 (letters) Someone has stitched 'Ballerina Beauty' and it looks amazing. Something I would love to tackle but I have too many other things to do.
I agree it is stunning. I also like the Santa at the window card on the opposite page
A Note from Margaret - Can anyone else tell me the point of writing about an old sofa cos it's lost on me??
Waste of space
Poinsettia ABC - Flowery so not for me but others may like it for cards, coasters etc
I like flowers but don't like the colour of the letters against the red of the poinsettia - I would have preferred something closer to the green of poinsettia leaves
Best Buys feature - I thought the Elves' House from Bothy Threads was cute but not sure I want to stitch that much backstitch
Santa's Office by Joan Elliot - lovely, bright and cheeful design. Looks more complicated than it is. I think my mum would love this - but not this year!
I also like this
Festive trees - for cards - there are two that I like, the curly one and the one with all the writing.
I like all of these - probably my favourite designs in the magazine. My faves are the 2 you picked out
Subs Extra - Eat Drink and Be Merry - cute, lots of little motifs
not for me
Sparkle & Shine - Samplers aren't really my thing tbh but this is quite pretty in a muted sort of way.
Really like this but not sure about stitching a whole piece in metallic thread. I've got the free leaflet that is on P45 and like the gold Christmas tree with the red baubles
Design Library - Stitch me quick xmas designs - prfect for last minute cards
Nothing appealed to me here
Stocking fillers - these are a bit different from normal. Lanyards, gadget cosy case, phone case etc. I like the space invaders design and 'keep calm and LOL' :rotfl:
Like these - especially the Bookworms and the Space Invaders. Great selection of small motifs for key fobs
Love the Michael Powell scissor and key fobs in the article on stitching presents
Christmas Meerkat - was it really 4 weeks ago I saw this and thought my MIL would love it? Time has flown. It doesn't look like it will take too long so I will try and fit it in I think
Not for me
Christmas Cupcake - Thank goodness there will be a new monthly thing soon
Next series must surely be better than this one
Winter Window - part 3 of the series. Pretty but not for me.
Too pink
Christmas Stocking - one of Lucie Heatons mice, very cute.
Yes cute
Country Christmas - Very 'Downton'...1920's style christmas staircase scene with people dressed up. If I stitched this I would have to make changes though - a couple of the faces (lady in yellow in particular) look a little 'cartoony' and her bust looks too low and droopy :rotfl:
Disturbingly weird looking people
Loved the ad for Uncommon Scissors - I might be dropping a couple of hints about these to Santa
Next Month - The spanish Lady looks lovely, and Tom Mouse pouring champagne is very cute
Thought next month's issue looks good. I like the Stitching Diary as a free gift and JE designs are always welcome. I like the look of the boudoir lace designs and love the orchid (I know it's flowers so you won't :rotfl:)
Still too many non craft related ads for my liking but there seemed to be more stitch related ads this time and I like these0 -
FOS, Rubies Stocking is great finished. The fabric looks really nice and sets it off well. Its put together well :T
Sweetcarer, Purple woork looks great, I bet it will look amazing once finished.
BEG, Love! Love! Love! That cross stitch website have my eye on one or two now :rotfl:
Few more cards done, must update my sig! Also found a framers for my London piece. Just need to get it to them and the frame chosen now, thats a job for next weekend I think!0 -
Had a lovely night last night - went to a Dinner/Dance with Hubby and his parents (his dad was getting a presentation) then because hubby had decided not to bother drinking we left a little early and went to see the late night showing of Skyfall - it's not often we can be out till after 2am without having to rush home to he babysitter (kids were sleeping at my mums):rotfl:
Sweetcarer - purplework is coming along really well:Tchickywiggle wrote: »reader gallery - idea number 6
What a FAB idea!!!
I'm intrigued...do share :rotfl:
Flat_Eric - I LOVE your ladybird slippers :TUmm can you explain the squashed stitches???I was reading their explanation on the bus but was
the scarf I'm knitting is coming along but its taking ages. any tips on how best to finish off ?? pom poms / tassells etc / buttons (to be different??) what would you suggest?
Chicky has posted a good diagram, it is basically a stitch which is 2x1 holes insead of 2x2 on evenweave. So it ends up the same length but half the width. (and another can be squashed in next to it)
I think pom poms would be a nice finish - they would weigh the ends down a bit so it wouldn't flap about in the wind :rotfl:Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
