fe Assuming your question about ideal present has no financial limits then I would love one of these storage units |Well you did ask :rotfl:

Oh my goodness! I wish I hadn't clicked on that link. I REALLY want that storage unit now. How amazing is it? And I'm a fan of the Really Useful boxes already. Must buy lottery tickets...:rotfl:

    Hey everyone,
Hope all is OK in your world. I have just the edges of all the monthly banners to do and the top banner edge and calendar bears will be finished... but I have run out of dark brown! I have found a conversion chart so next time I go shopping I’ll get some thread to finish it.
In the meantime I have started a tatty teddy piece; I’m already dreading the backstitch but it’s a charity piece so worth it! Basically it’s for a charity called Love Quilts UK, cross stitched squares on a theme get sewn together to form a quilt for a child who has a life threatening or lifelong illness. Worth checking out all you avid stitchers!
Shelly – I’m not a cat lover but the picture is very pretty, lots of random stitching to keep you on your toes! Saw your post re fabric –I’ve recently used Across Town and Katzstitch both of which are good prices.
*Louise* you’ve made quick work of that 12 days of Christmas! What are you planning to do with it?
Benny1981 – OU study is hard, I’m currently doing a psychology degree. You have to be quite disciplined but at the same time take breaks, when study is at your own pace it’s as easy to try and get too much done as well as not enough. The forums on the OU home page and facebook I have found are really helpful.
PAP – love London, think all that greyscale and confetti stitch would have killed me!
Ailsb - great pics, purple is my favourite colour.
Ruth_honey – yes I’m a 1981 baby, I got mine when I was 16! Do you remember they used to have cross stitch book clubs in magazines where you got about 6 items really cheap then had to buy so many things full price over the next year or so, well it was one of those. In fact when I looked on the chart the design is dated 1991! I love the Octobear too, and the June bride, maybe that’s just wishing that a kind handsome man may still come along and sweep me off my feet!!! :rotfl:

I remember them. Readers Union, wasn't it? I think I got some Christmassy aida & books from them.
My bear kit was bought on a holiday in St Austell, I think. I remember going to the cinema with my friend while we were there & we were very amused that they had an intermission. Seemed so old fashioned to us. Lol!

Glad you found it - I was hoping it was still there as I might download it again and save it for some other time. I have decided that is the one for the competition. I got some felt so will back it later - busy getting on with the baking items for the competition. I also cross stitching a crown for the jubilee card competition. So that make 10 competitions I will be entering on Saturday - they are

    1. 3 pancakes (will do Friday or even Saturday morning)
    2. 3 oven fruit scones (will do Friday)
    3. 3 shortbread fingers (will do Thursday)
    4. 3 decorated cupcakes (will make cakes Thursday - deocrate Friday/Saturday)
    5. date & walnut loaf - their receipe (will do Thursday)
    6. 3 welsh cakes (will do Friday or even Saturday morning)
    7. chutney - made red tomato with apple and raisen (done this saturday).
    8. swiss milk tablet (will do Thursday or Wednesday)
    9. cross stitch bookmark (hands off my book)
    10. jubilee card and small wrapped parcel.

I am glad it all went ok - have run out of credit or would of text you to see how you are.

I know use the phone alot at work doing orders and using it for other things for my department but I hate doing - I get all tounge tied - I used to stutter years ago - and when I get nervous I can slip I have to tell myself to speak.

But I was brave today as I called back the insurance company re: their new quote for car insurance and managed to get it down to £42 so only £12 more than before instead of the £23 they originally wanted to put it up.

Wow what a long post. Sorry if I took up too much space.

Keep well everyone, till next time

    sweetcarer ;)

Ok, now I'm hungry! Best of luck for Saturday. Let us know how you get on. Oh, and well done for phoning your insurance company. You've saved yourself quite a bit of money. :money::T

    Hi everyone :hello:

*Louise* I can't believe how fast you stitch! Twelve Days is looking good :)

JCS1 Blackwork angel looks great! I can't wait to stitch her. Next year, though :p

postingalwaysposting London is looking fab. Have you got much more to go?

Ailsb Haven't used a needle organiser but have been considering one of these: Thread Organiser Fairies looking good.

Ruth_honey Glad your wounds are healing now.

I don't like phoning take-aways and taxis. Get DH to do it whenever I can :p

Also, Gel superglue was from Wilkos. It's in the DIY section with all the glues, rather than the craft section.

Sweetcarer Good luck with all your competitions! You have been busy! :)

Good progress is being made with Noahs Ark which is nice. Photo update soon.

Took our cat Harold to vets yesterday and he is needing 3 teeth out, but have to wait on some blood tests back because he might have a problem with his kidneys. Poor kitty :(

Night all- off to do a bit more Noahs Ark.
    xx

    Aw...poor Harold. Hope he's ok.
Thanks for the info on the gel superglue. I wouldn't have thought to look in the DIY section, so cheers for that.

I've got a needle organiser-think it must be the Pako one. I've only used it for the Crisp Afternoon stitching, but it has proved useful. Funnily enough, it was something that Gloria gave me(the stitcher whose funeral it was last week), so I have her to thank. She also gave me one of those Handeez gloves, which are a big help when on a marathon stitching session.

Welcome Jarus! Pull up a chair, have a cuppa & tell us more about yourself...:)

Welcome back Jarus - we only "know" each other because we witter away on here whether cross stitch related or not.

Craftygranny - how's things, seems ages since I've seen your name in a forum.

I'm on the finishing stretch of the leaves for the fairies, hoping to complete them today although also want to cook my christmas cake. Going to work backwards from the toadstool to the corner so that I know the stem of the leaves match.

    Hi ladies.

JCS. Nice progress on your Blackwork Angel.

PAP. Nice London progress. Is the end in sight?

    Ailsb. Nice update pics.

Thanks for the comments re fabric. I think I have found all the pieces I need via ebay and acrosstown. The ebay ones are listed as DMC fabric but acrosstown doesn't list a brand.
I know DMC threads are ok but is the fabric ok? Has anyone bought fabric from AT? was it ok?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm not used to buying fabric :o

I've used DMC fabric and it has been fine

I have the pako needle threader. I have rarely used it but thats not because I'm not a fan - more because I haven't had the need - have been concentrating more on smaller projects.

I also bought the Tanto Thread Organiser with my xmas money but haven't used that either

PS parcel turned up a short while ago ! yay !

I'm another user of the Pako needle organiser and find it useful for projects with lots of colours.
I've seen the Tanto organiser and thought it used us a lot of space for what it is - maybe that's why you haven't used it?

I stitched a piece for Love Quilts at the end of last year - it's a great cause. The only thing that put me off is that you have to stitch on aida which I don't enjoy but that's just me. I used to do something similar in the 90's - it was a project called the Angel Afghan Project and a friend of mine was one of the people who made the quilts for a while.

Wow that is an impressive list. Do let us know how you get on in all the categories (photos even?:D)

Well done re the car insurance :money:
  • I must learn to use my diary and not just carry it around for the fun of it.
left work early tonight to go to DS1's parents evening. met hubby and kids............walked in the school, wandered past a couple of members of staff in the 'creche' room who looked perplexed when I asked if it was ok to leave the kids with them (i think they thought we wanted a babysitter so we could go to the pub or something :rotfl:).
Hunted for a teacher...............before going home.....................and discovering it is tomorrow and Thursday not Tuesday/ Wednesday.

righty I'm off to finish my christmas card (well the stitchy bit of it anyway).

And try to remember how to use winzip.

Sorry but this made me laugh - then I thought about what a waste of good stitching time it was.

I use my phone to keep track of everything and include all appointments, reminders, tasks, even shopping lists there. It is synchronised with my outlook calendar at work so my whole life is in one place (and backed up in case of lost phone of course). I don't know how I coped before - maybe I didn't :rotfl:
  • WOW Sweetcarer you are going to be busy. Good luck for all the competitions and yes please to photos!
Its hard not to feel really christmassy after reading this thread - everyone has so many great projects on the go.
Just popped in for a quick catch up - running late for an apt! xoxo
