So i'm thinking that they'd be perfect with a mount.
I've never cut mounts before, always had them done professionally, anyone cut their own?? and how hard is it?? any tips??
    !

I haven't personally cut my mounts but my lovely handy DH has and the results have been quite good so far. If it was for something really special I think I may still opt for the professionals doing it but I can't complain at all with his results. Would it be worth trying to cut a smaller one just to give it a go??? Good luck.

Hello Fran Welcome to the Cafe  Look forward to seeing pics of your stitchy efforts :j

    Subtle Minx

Yes it was Debenham%. I have just gone to find the gown to post linky but can't find it anymore :( As I suspected they didn't have the gown in store (so I have no idea what the gown will be like) but they did have these pjs which I saw online this morning. I thought the sale in store was pretty rubbish to be honest - mostly items with 20% or 30% off instead of the advertised 70% blue cross sale and don't get me started on the reductions for the men's scarfs and hats. Nothing for the ladies.

Thanks for tip re perfume Chicky. Debeham% didn't have perfume I wanted so glad I bought online and wondering about getting perfume for sister for xmas pressie so good tip. Will have a nose .... :T

Good luck for your exam Little Star. Plenty of stitchy reward time when its done and dusted :T

Mrs Moneypenny Oh - how annoying  almost as bad as when you buy something and they leave one of those ginormous security tags on or give you two wrong sized shoes  Glad it got sorted.

    Flowers of scotland
Ditto the freshly washed been on the line bedding. :T

I often have a weekend catnap. usually the cat joins me (as if he doesn't get enough sleep already!) I do think I could make better use of my time (i.e stitching/reading etc) but do enjoy my little afternoon snoozes

You are right re notebook and pen - that doesn't cost anything!

So I had a pleasant time in town and didn't spend too much....

Did think I was getting a bargain in $miths - had a £5 off £12 spend (qualifying items included stationery/arts/crafts) couldn't find any stationery I wanted so thought I would be good and leave the shop empty handed then spotted a half price label machine at £14.99. With voucher got it for £10.00. It was only after I had long left the shop that I realised the tape cartridges (which don't seem readily available and are expensive to buy) are just samples  Oh well.

Oh and Chicky I thought there was no-one to serve me at the checkouts and that I would have to use the self service but spotted a young lad hiding behind the checkouts so got him to serve me (as wasn't sure voucher would work). He was very miserable. I'm guessing the last place he wanted to be on a Sunday morning was serving customers :rotfl:

Sweetcarer - love your purple work. Its growing really quickly.

catwoman - love the little aprons. Great ideas for xmas pressies.

pap - nice little card. Looking forward to seeing your sewing box

chicky - love the little Permin boats and cars. Just added the DMC lights to my 'to buy' list. I know I need the red and I suppose the others will come in handy. ;)

scotstwinmum - welcome to the Cafe :hello:

aneres - welcome back to the Cafe and very many congratulations to you both.

    sk00bie - love Mum's pic.

brednall - <<<hugs>>> on the way to you.

Mags_cat - Hard Frost is simply stunning. Can you remember the other day I told you that DH was admiring your Escher??? pic - well I have just told him your estimate for framing and it has left him speechless. It will be worth it though and at least you know so you may be able to budget for it. Looking forward to next update.

    Good Morning Ladies

I agree with the comment we are more than just a cross stitch forum - we are a group of ladies come together support each other and share our joys, our sads, our lives

    sweetcarer ;)

You've certainly hit the nail on the head here sweetcarer.

FE - good price on dressing gown. Got DS some labels for his label machine at Aldi/Lidl (sorry cant remember which) and I dont think they were too expensive.

littlestar - good luck with exam

Mrs.m - thanks for warning re empty dvd boxes.

Louise - looking forward to Matt Smith update pic.

Seem to have trouble settling down to do anything today. I have however tidied my stitchy corner (end of sofa) as it was getting a little bit out of control. Sorted some projects with fabric/threads to see what I need to order. It's DS's birthday today so we had a lovely lunch prepared by DH (he even did the washing up) and now we are off to visit Mum. DS and DH plan to watch Promethius (or something like that) so I have booked in some stitching or will watch Corrie/XFactor/Strictly upstair. The trouble with doing this upstairs is - I get comfy under the duvet and fall asleep before the first lot of trailers. :o

Sorry for many posts but I had a lot to catch up on.

    Hi all.
Had some very upsetting news last night. A friend of mine passed away 2 weeks ago and I had no idea. I got an email from another friend in America saying that she'd seen something on facebook about the funeral and did I know about it. What a horrible way to find out. Although I am grateful that I did find out in time to go to the funeral this Friday.
She was a stitching friend of mine that I met online in 1999 and we'd just clicked. She was in her 60s at the time, but we got on really well and met up at shows a few times, plus I had visited her at her home in Lowestoft when I was holidaying in the area. She was even at my wedding.
Weirdly, I was talking about her the day of my op because the nurse admitting me had a similar (filthy! ;) ) laugh and I commented to DH about it. I meant to get in touch, but the days turn into weeks, and before you know it, months have passed.
I have found out today that she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in August and died the very end of September. She wouldn't quit those bl00dy cigarettes!!! Am so upset that she's gone and I never got chance to tell her how much she meant to me. I really hope I can make the funeral on Friday. I think my mum might want to go too, so maybe she could drive me-it's near Great Yarmouth.

In stitching news, I finished the stitching on my christmas card exchange. Just not mounted it in the card yet.

And Hard Frost looks REALLY lovely!

Since I was on a roll I got these done as well.....

Little Girls With Santa. Frame £1 from Asda. I am going to decorate the edges with some red crystals to finish it off:
Edit to add - I'm going to change the mount to a red one....

    October2012003.jpg

Christmas Cupcakes. I was going to get a double aperture frame or do a third cupcake but after I saw these IKEA frames a few weeks ago for £2.75 I thought I might as well have them all individual:

    October2012006.jpg

And while I had the stuff out, I mounted a couple of cards with the stuff from cross stitch heaven last week. Still need to finish them off but the complicated part is done :)

    October2012004.jpg

So overall, a good stitchy day for me today :D

  • Ruth_honey - so sorry to hear your sad news. Hopefully you and your Mum will be able to make it to the funeral.

Louise - you have been a little busy bee this afternoon. They all look brilliant and those red frames stand out really well. Can't wait to get my Ikea ones sorted. Must try to look at the frames in Asda tomorrow to see what our local one has.

Hope you all have a good evening.
