I've used both of those successfully for book marks
I have some that I have for turning up trousers - is that the same thing? I might make a trip up to HobbyCraft sometime and get some felt.
Thank you for your help.
sweetcarer;):j cross stitch forever, housework whenever :j0 -
It is the same stuff, but it comes in different weights - the thickest is probably a milimetre or so thick, so would totally cover up the stitching and strengthen the fabric. I'll look for a link...

Scoobie - I went to the Knit and stitch show yesterday too - never been to a show like this before and was amazed at the amount of different crafts there! Fell in love with many cross stitch kits, quilt kits and fabrics but managed to not over spend, have made a list of everything to find when I have the money though.
I've stitched the cabin that you mentioned - it was a lovely kit! I've also done the cabin fever design that's similar. I'm on the lookout for the Serenity, Courage and Wisdom kit now - but not at £45+ lol0 -
Hello Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. It's a lovely bright and sunny day here so have spent the morning washing and hanging outside (I love the smell of line dried clothes and bedding)
We have a weekend free of visits and visitors for once so planned to get a lot of stitching done. After doing the chores and shopping yesterday morning settled down after lunch to stitch - DH had chosen music DVD for accompaniment. Stitched a bit and the next thing I am waking up and it's time to make dinner (in plenty of time to watch Strictly live). What was worse when I looked at the little I had stitched before falling asleep I had started in the wrong place so it had to be unpicked:mad:
Intending to try again this afternoon and hopefully will not fall asleep this time - sleeping in the day is such a waste of time
I am still resisting the Butterfly Lady kit - it is far too much to spend on just a chart and a few threads (17 colours) though it would look wonderful on hand dyed evenweave (from my stash).....
chicky I agree meal planning is a good way to keep grocery spending under control plus sticking to a list and only shopping once a week. Well done on putting the magazine back. IF is stunning - can't wait to see it framed and your mum will be thrilled.
Thanks for the heads up about the free listing weekend
Great bargain on the light effects thread - is the silver what you are going to use for your Christmas card?
mrsmp It's not easy to glue things onto aida because it isn't a flat surface. If it's a string of beads can you not catch the string down with a stitch every few beads? Have never using a glue gun (they sound scary to me)
I wouldn't persevere with your local store - there are lots on places online to buy Celtic Noel including fleabay - it's quite a old design so will often appear as people are clearing out their stash
Lovely offer by your daughter re the evenweave
Thanks for the heads up about the DVD
Louise I love those 2 Lizzie Kate charts as well - I've got quite a lot of her annual Santa small charts and plan to stitch them onto a piece of linen band to make a bell pull "some day"
Your morning organisers are FAB - you could sell them on Folksy/Etsy (if you had time to make more of course)
Thanks for showing the before and after backstitch photos - what a difference the bs makes.
Ruth honey Lovely to read your updates and that you are making progress. One of my SiL was able to get a personal trainer for a few weeks under the type of scheme you have mentioned.
Giving the kit with a promise to stitch it would be a lovely present. Though I once did this with a kit that DH had admired and I duly started to stitch it only to HATE it. It was a preprinted design where you only did some xs and although I have done a couple of others like that I just couldn't get on with this one (it was called something like Imperial or Stalking Lion). It is now a very long term UFO and DH still mentions it occasionally and I say it's on my to do list (right at the bottom :rotfl:)
I use pinking shears sometimes for trimming the edges of small pieces but I prefer to oversew the edges of larger pieces. I agree with FE that the pinked edge can catch on your needle sometimes
b e g I like the Making Spot website as well
leemina While I have framed pieces myself I have never cut my own mounts - sorry can't help with your query
sweetcarer How frustrating at the PO. Love your updates
I have mounted bookmark stitching onto felt - either using iron on bondaweb (which comes in a version for craft which is stronger than the one for doing hems) or by using a decorative running or blanket stitch around the aida. I've also stitched the aida onto felt with the sewing machine using ric rac braid around the aida
pap Christmas card design is lovely. Sewing box project sounds very daunting to me - looking forward to seeing updates
FE I don't think you need anything more technologically advanced than a pen and a small notebook to keep track of spendingThe debt free wanabee board has lots of suggestions for keeping spending under control including the No Spend Day challenge.
scotstwinmum Hello and welcome to the cafe. Is your Celtic Christmas the one by Lavender & Lace?
aneres Hi again and many congratulations
skoobie glad you made the show and enjoyed it. Well done on the restraint. The kit is lovely and not a huge amount of work for the size. I like doing drawn thread but as you have to remove threads from the fabric I would suggest trying the technique on a spare piece of fabric first
Those Dimensions kits are stunning but a lot of work  One of the things I love about going to shows is seeing the stitched models - it is so much better than just photos on a website
Emma Sorry to read about your frustrations with your DH. I have to agree with elliep about talking to him about your feelings
mags cat what a great job your framer has done and at a great price too. I think I remember seeing your Autumn JC piece - which designs did you stitch for summer and spring?
subtleminx sorry Halloween blackwork didn't make it to my very long to do list (good thing really
Hugs to all who need/want them and happy Sunday stitching to all0 -
off topic (sorrryyyy)
made a trifle (packet mix) with ds1 yesterday and it looked great.
but it didn't set properly. took 1 spoonful out(around 6h after making it) and basically ended with a red white and yellow slop.
what happened???loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
aneres - welcome back and congratulations on your marriage :j
scotswinmum - Welcome to the cafeWhereabouts in Scotland are you? I'm just outside Edinburgh :j
sk00bie - you were very good at the stitching show :T I can't be without my thread cutter round my neck these days when stitching. I fell in love with Aurora Cabin when I saw it stitched up at a show this year....but I know I won't stitch itI think I like Holiday Village even more as well, I hadn't seen that one before.
brednall - sorry to hear that.Couldn't you have sent the kids to grannies and gone out with someone else instead? Or even had a night to yourself and a long lie (without making breakfast) Sounds like you need a good sit down chat together. I lost my Dad in March so I can understand how tough things can be, especially whe you need extra emotional support and you wonder how everyone can possibly think you shoudl be carrying on as normal
(((hugs)))
Mags - Hard frost looks A-MA-ZING!!!!:T The frame/mount are perfect and I think that price was spot on. It does sound expensive for your HAED but when you think of the size and the amount of work you will put into it it's worth it. You could always put £10 a month away towards it and you will have a chunk of money waiting for when it's completed.
Flat Eric - Can I ask where you got the dressing gown at that price? I am on the look out for a new one :rotfl:Glad you found your perfume
littlestar - Good luck with your exam
FOS....have you not bought that kit yet???:rotfl:
Thanks for you comments on my kids' morning charts - when hubby got in and saw him he did say 'why did you buy them, you could have easily made them yourself' :rotfl:They don't actually take long to make, it's attaching the velcro which takes the longest (I would use cirles next time) I might well look into folksy (is that the british site?)Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219.
