Rent at parents house

Hi,
At 24 years old Ive recently moved back into my parents house after renting my own place for 4 years.
The reason for moving back is mainly to save to go abroad for a year next year.
My parents live in a 3 bedroom house in London, my mum, my dad and my brother.
My brother doesnt pay rent as he just eft college in July.
When I moved out my brother moved into the bigger bedroom so now Ive come back Ive had to move back into the box room.

Can you please help me by giving your opinion on how much rent you think would be an appropriate amount to pay. The figure would be to include all bills.
I would appreciate any opinions!
Thanks

  • I would offer £60-£70. Depends on how much food you eat. If you're like my son and constantly raiding the fridge, £100.

I would've thought your parents would be deciding that.. Depends how much they love you, how much water/electric/food you use, etc etc...
  • You must have a good idea of how much things cost. Maybe half of what you were paying in your own place ? Discuss it with your parents so you can come up with a figure that is fair to everyone. Also, it would be nice if you could do a few jobs around the house, I think they would appreciate that.

Box room with all bills in London - without food - going rate probably £750pcm... council tax alone in a 3-bed houseshare £500 a year... family so £500pcm might be possible if they are super soft touch....

would've said the going rate for board & lodgings in your parents house is around £150-£200 pcm
  • Add up all the bills and offer 1/4 of that.

are you trying to be funny? Why would parents want to charge their own child anything like a landlord would charge their tenant? Such a silly post.

I think it's only fair to split total bills (food, CT, Gas, Elec) and then add a bit on top for invading their home after they'd got shut of you.

    What about food and rent?
  • incl. food & rent obviously!
  • Have you asked or have they mentioned they expect rent?

If they don't want anything, help out round the house or kitty on food bill
