Rent at parents house

are you trying to be funny? Why would parents want to charge their own child anything like a landlord would charge their tenant? Such a silly post.
I think it's only fair to split total bills (food, CT, Gas, Elec) and then add a bit on top for invading their home after they'd got shut of you.
because they are an *adult* living in london, so paying £500 would be about 66% of the going rate and they might want their kids to have a grasp on the cost of living in london and perhaps make career decisions based upon the reality of standing on their own two feet???0 -
Both my adult daughters live at home and pay £40 per week inclusive. Probably isn't enough but they do help out around the house.0

If the reason to move back is to save money, why wouldn't your parents want to support this and charge you as little as they can afford. A maximum of the extra costs that you being at home brings.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. its probably ballpark what most parents charge their kids I'd say0 -
If you were a lodger the government rent-a-room scheme would allow your parents to charge £4,250 rent per year (£354.16 per month) withour paying tax. As they know what you're saving for they might be happy for you to pay less. Personally I think that's quite high for a single room with family but I don't live in London.
You may find you're better off discussing your contribution to household bills. The mortgage and council tax won't go up just because you're home but the gas, electricity and grocery bills definatley will.0 -
Well the reason for me asking is that my mum is making me pay £400 per month and compared to what all my friends pay at their parents house it seemed a bit steep especially when she knows the whole reasom ive come back is to save for a purpose! I just wanted to find out what other people thought as she is adamant im gettig a good deal?!!0

That depends on how much you earn.0 -

If you think its too expensive, move out and get your own place. You'll soon realise what a bargain it is.0
