Have been trying to stick to a strict grocery budget over the last few weeks and from now on. Just thought I'd share what Tesco everyday value products I've discovered in case anyone will find it useful.
The good:

Tinned mushy peas 4p a tin - really good I think especially as fruit and veg is so expensive and I think tinned counts towards one of five a day!
Tinned peaches - about 29p a tin and I actually prefer these to the more expensive brands.
Rice snaps (krispies equivalent) - these are about 80p a packet. Not great but for the price quite acceptable
Facial tissues - about 65p a box really good unless I've got a cold qhen I splash out on the springforce balm ones (99pish a box)
Biscuits - all the value biscuits Ive tried a fine, the bourbons and choc chip cookies especially. The choc digestives aren't great but fine for the price
Liquid handwash - about 40p for 500ml in a pump. smells nice, washes nice.
Kitchen rolls - £1.25 for two large rolls. Not the most absorbant but fine for wiping up/using with antibac cleaner etc.
Canned tuna chunks/flakes - have been really impressed with these. Was expecting loads of black bits but found just as good quality as Princes/John West etc and about a quarter of the price.
Facial wipes - for removing make-up etc. these are about 40p for 25 and really good with a pleasant smell
chocolate chip cake bars - individually wrapped and 5 for 50p
Instant custard powder - sachets you make up with boiling water really excellent, tastes nice and so easy

frozen fish in butter sauce - 4 sachets for about £1.60, perfectly acceptable

frozen peas - very good

frozen brocolli florets - very good and so much cheaper than fresh brocoli

Jaffa cakes - probably my favourite value product prefer these to the mcvities

The not so good:

White chocolate - no taste to it and bit cardboard-ish!

Washing up liquid - need loads and this is one thing where I believe top brand is best. Have got a bottle of fairy that needs so little for good cleaning it has lasted months

Tinned ready custard - very disappointing when the sachet version is so nice the tinned one tasted horrible to me. sachets are cheaper anyway!

  • I use the 45p facial wipes, will definitely buy these in future rather than the £1 ones from Boots. I also buy value squash and value mixed crisps (onion rings, cheese puffs, salt & vinegar sticks).

Im just starting out trying the value range from Tesco's. I quite often buy the 'normal' tesco own brands and have always been happy with what ive used (especially cereals)

  • I much prefer the value blackcurrant squash - tastes much nicer than Robinsons and you only need to use a little bit. Think it is about 32p.

Kitchen rolls however - if you have B&M bargains or Home Bargains they sell packs of 3 for £1.29 which are just as good as the branded ones IMO.

I bought the white chocolate for cooking with because it was cheap but ended up eating most of it as I thought it tasted like Milky Bar! I don't know if they changed the recipe when they rebranded it? Or my taste buds are really off!
  • Tomato ketchup 19p a bottle, down from 22p. This tastes fine, it is slightly thinner in texture to the branded ones.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

    one life, live it!
  • I'm another that likes the value squash. I'd agree on the rice snaps. The cornflakes are really good IMHO, and 32/33p for 500 grams. I have the ketchup for the office, and it's acceptable, the guys in the office seem to agree. What does anyone else think about the fish fingers at 60p a pack? I bought a pack to see what they were like ( and expecting them to be rubbish), but was pleasantly surprised that I found them perfectly edible.

What about those breaded fish portions. They are dirt cheap. About £1.60/kg. Its made of cod, not pollock, so that's a positive IMO.
  • I love their value tinned potatoes at 19p. Drain and spray with olive oil and seasoning powder and they crisp up lovely in the oven and make a quick veg when you're pushed for time.

Also my son and DH love the 12p tins of rice pudding.

It's not healthy by any means but the Everyday Value Cheesecake recipe seems to have been re-done, thinner base so more cheesecake and better texture - plus it's dropped in price by 2p or 5p depending on the store (£1.78 big stores, some Expresses had a £1.75 offer this week) compared to the old white box value price of £1.80.

Also, the ordinary facial tissues, they charge 68p like the competition but you get half as much again, 225 sheets instead of 150. Having been prone to hayfever, cheap tissues are a godsend!
  • Everyday value frozen stir fry veg mix. £1.30 and much better than the fresh imo.
Actually pretty much all the frozen veg... peas, sweetcorn etc.
The packs of "fresh" Orange and apple juice, made from concentrate like most of the others and tastes much the same
Cottage cheese- we use it as cheap filler for baked potatoes etc. and chop things into it- onions, chives, that type of thing.
Flour. Just as good as more expensive brands.
Dried fruit (apricots, raisins etc) just as good.
The philidelphia cheese equivalents, ie cream cheese and cheese with garlic, I actually prefer.
Did not like the everyday value mozzerella which was rubbery and tasteless.
The salad cheese, which I thought might be like feta, but again was rubbery and tasteless compared to proper feta.
the long grain rice goes a bit mushy.

Going to try the frozen fish products because of the reviews on here. Thank you.
