  • No, not really......however, I did cave :o and got £49 for my used G300 so I'm not complaining. Good as the G300 was, the Moto G is simply in another league altogether.

The next big Huawei's could be the Honor 3X and 3C.
Looks a heck of a phone for the price! Released end of Jan...

Don't bother with Very, send it direct to the authorised Huawei repair centre. However I think the warranty is only 12 months, but if it's the PCB failed then make a case for a free repair anyway-you have nothing to lose.
They fixed and returned mine in less than a week: excellent service.

    Thanks for the advise.

i just contacted Huawei direct and they asked me to send it back for repair. They said as long as there is no physical or water damage the repair will be free.

Given I've already paid for the Moto G the G300 may need to find a new home...

I sold mine a couple of months ago and picked up a Motorola Razr for £140 sim free.
    Different class.

Get an Ovivo SIM and shove in it (the G300) I take it out anywhere my posh phone may get nicked or damaged like in the saddle bag of my bike, if wife needs me she knows the number and being able to call for help or look on Google maps is handy. I also have TomTom on mine so can use it as Sat Nav. or use it as a modem for the odd tether for your laptop/tablet, the Ovivo allowances are plenty enough for this sort of use and will not cost you a penny then.

There are issues with ICS in general not 'remembering' the selection you make in setting to use internal/SD and it tends to default back to internal

Still having issues with this :(
Even with it set correctly to SD card, the phone seems rather sluggish

the good news is... the G300 has buckets of internal memory so you can install massive amounts of apps and they will run faster on internal memory anyway, so worry not.

It says we have 2.02GB of space, is that right?
It's sort of 'light grey', (whereas in the SD card, the 'available' is dark grey) does that mean empty?

The SD card really comes into it for storing data - photos, movies, tons of albums and so on.. The better the SD card the erm..better. I have a 16gb class 4 but have just ordered a 32gb class 10 (quickest) - Amazon £19.
We have a Kingston 8GB SD card, it says HC 4, presume that means class 4?
Maybe we should get a class 10 one?

In the camera app, pull down the top menu, select the setting icon (a gear wheel), scroll it down, preferred save location, set it to 'memory card' pictures will now go to SD card - DCIM - Camera folder.

    Already done!

Sluggish can be many things, I don't think there is an answer to the reluctant memory location setting, probably got fixed in a later ROM someone brewed up but I won't be messing much more with the G300 now as its retired to secondary use. Its a bug I have not worried about much as its not been a limitation.

Yes 2.02GB is the Installed (not free) available internal memory.

Below that it should show values for how much has been used up by Apps, pictures, audio.... and so on finally to 'Available' with the amount of internal storage still left FREE as a value next to it. (mine is down to 444MB free)

Then it repeats again below in another section called SD Card... same meanings.

Well a class 4 is 4MB a second, a class 10 is 10MB a second, so it doesn't do any harm. I tend to migrate SD cards so you 8GB class 4 would find a home in a camera and the phone would get the better one. You would just have to duplicate the contents across.

    Already done!

We are certainly not ready to 'retire' the beloved G300 - her last phone lasted 6 years ... hope this one will do the same

Good choice, Samsung make good performing cards. I was perfectly happy with my G300, but then work gave me a Samsung Note 2 and whilst it feels cheaply made even next to the Huawei and it is big and ungainly, its very quick and the 5.5" high resolution screen is really easy on the eyes I have to admit.
