Just tried both those but they have expired. panicked because the credit account was applied and approved and was at payment stage so a quick scan of HUKD came up with 2DHMK - worked an absolute treat, yet another G300 added to the family :D

    well spotted

the old code should still be valid but sounds like they pulled it prematurely

I'll post the new checkout code on the first post for new shoppers and give you credit for finding it

something I discovered a while ago and maybe worth sharing

I heard a lot of horror stories on this forum about mobile users finding themselves with a telephone number balance ££££££££££££'s (pun intended) at the end of the month and no choice but to pay or have ruined credit

I actually posted myself as to whether you can set your own cap with phone company

anyway found a setting on G300 whether you can set your own cap on data use for the month - it doesn't differentiate between free WiFi and 3g but I felt better since I set it :o)

  • With the decent size screen & GPS this can be used for sat nav. Has anyone bought a holder so it can be fastened to their car screen / dashboard? If so, what did you buy and did you insert the phone into it without a case?

I use mine as Sat Nav nearly every day - better than my proper one because

1/ I can just "say" where i want to go - "mac donalds, bank, golden orient"
2/ Dont need to know address or postcode - "barclay road" simply finds nearest barclay road
3/ Map is always upto date
4/ Get a nice pic at destination

I bought a holder for an Iphone from Tesco for about £4 and it fits perfic - like a rubber/sponge mount which means its holds it very firm without scratching - i also ordered plug in power supply separate from Amazon - sat nav mode uses a lot of power and some power supplies dont charge it fast enough

    happy with my setup

  • Thanks JethroUK for your helpful feedback. May I ask if the holder was this one:

No - I did look on both Tesco & Amazon but nothing quite the same on there any more - the mount on mine is a spring not unlike this

and actually i found the spring can vibrate - but the bracket/shoe on mine is less obtrusive which is exactly the reason i bought it

mine was in a bargain bin and I actually tried my G300 in it before i bought it (was designed for iphone) - but there are 100's on Amazon specifically for the G300 which should be fine if not better - I would just consider buying a separate power supply as many of the bundled ones are just not up to it

Do you used the Navigation app that it came with or another one?

The M8 app was recommended to me as better than Google maps, but I haven't used it for navigation yet.

JethroUK. many thanks for all your help.

luci, I'm testing Waze, Google Navigation, Copilot and M8. I like Waze but I have known it lose the connection and then its useless - when you're on the motorway you cant be messing with the settings.

    Merry Christmas :)

I have Tom Tom on mine with UK maps onboard so no need for a data connection ;)
