What do you want to do?
Do you think you want to be at a university, cause its nice, or do you actually want to do something specific?
I used to work at an animal charity.
I just want a job that lets me help people and to improve things.
So I would do anything that sort of fits in with that that I would be able to make a career out of.
What attracts me to a university is that I know the sector a bit, they are large employers so you should get many opportunities to work in different sections of it over time.:beer:0 -

Keep it up, Phil, you might find a newbie who hasn't read your previous threads.0 -

You might not like working in a university - it is very different to being a student, you know.
Once you get out of the school system you might know what you are talking about.
I might hate working at a uni, but it is the only sector I have a chance at getting a job in now.:beer:0 -
Go for it Phil, I wish you lots of luck in finding a job you like and enjoy. There's nothing wrong with knowing what you want and aiming for it.
On a different note, have you considered moving away from your home town for work? It might help expand your boundaries.0 -

Thanks, i know generally what sort of job I want if not the exact title of it.
I can not move for at least the first year of working as need to save my income to give it to my parents.
Then after that I might be able to move away, but if I am going to go down this university career route then I am going to have to save up about 6k for a Masters.:beer:0 -
Phil, frankly, if you're serious on an research/academic career (not all university jobs are academic)- do a PhD, otherwise the career ladder is extremely difficult. Plus, you'll get paid to do it.

I am going for academic related jobs (I would never want to be an academic),
but even to be a manager in the timetable office, for example, people employed in those jobs have masters. So i think to get into any sort of management position in a university I would have to do a Masters.:beer:0 -
What will the next thread be I wonder??  Perhaps unfair interviews, or they had someone in mind for the job from the beginning and the interview was a farce ....??
There is one job you haven't considered yet which I am surprised at - there will be a vacancy at no.10 soon!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
I have read through this thread like I did your last which is just a continuation from the previous and goes on and on about YOUR thoughts. When someone asks you a question you don't answer it you just ramble on. When someone gives you good advice it just goes over your head and you go off on a tangent!
You say you want a job you enjoy, not many people get that in the real world but they work (doing anything, anywhere) because they need to pay the bills etc It is A job and during the time they are in that job they look out for other jobs that they would be happy or happier in and it is not about qualifications, even if you have degrees it does not mean you will get a good job anymore - when are you going to join the real world phil??
I have worked in so many different places, different jobs over the years, and some I hated! I did however end up in a job I loved and very good prospects at the BBC, I loved going to work every day but unfortunately I became ill and had to leave - that's life phil, you have to take the rough with the smooth!0 -

Considering a job is most or all of your life then you really do need one that you enjoy.
I know a degree does not mean a magic job and nor are any of the jobs I want out of this world.
I think you are wrong that people can not get their job as loads and loads of people I know have got good good jobs from top companies, with training and all that- so it does happen.:beer:0
