I will, closing date was 5pm tonight, so I might get a letter or email this week if I have got an interview.

Phil, most large employers and (many small ones) will have a recruitment policy which sets out where they will advertise ALL jobs. They advertise widely to meet Equal Opportunities requirements, which you of all people should think is a Good Thing.

OF COURSE a university will put all its jobs on its careers boards, and share its vacancies with neighbouring universities. If it did not, there would be a risk of ending up with only local candidates, or its own graduates, and that perpetuates the People Like Us mentality which leads to indirect if not direct discrimination.

And on the list of 'organisations which try to do good in the world', I'm not sure how high I'd rank universities!

I understand that they want lots of canidates from all over the place. However, when you want a job you have to be a bit selfish and see everyone else as maybe a competitor and so you want the least people to apply that is possible.

Maybe it is not the best place for improving the world but at least they do a bit.

Hmmmmm, yet again I say the same to you Phil.

It doesn't work like that.

If you were the only applicant for a job, but didn't convince them that you could do it, they still wouldn't appoint you.


Similarly, if 100 people apply, and you're the best candidate, you'll get it!
