I suppose all things like Water companies, charities, housing are all socially important things. I think I am just going for uni because it is safe.:beer:0

How are water companies 'socially important'? They are (now) private companies looking to make a profit (by any means)!!!!
You have a really weird view of the world, Phil.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Phil, do you want a job, or not?Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0

Even socially responsible corporate companies do good in the world along with making money, don't limit yourself to just one area the world is a big place and there are lots of great opportunities for people who are not afraid of hard work.0

True, but you forget they invest in river water quality, the environment around waterways, resvours making an important social resource.
Why is that a weird thing to think is good?:beer:0 -

Sorry Phil - I actually have to pay 2 water bills and the crappy ancient pipework etc loses more water than is believable, resulting in hosepipe bans, yet the companies boast huge profits every year!
But hey, they spend money on rivers, so if anyone wants me I'll be in the Thames/Taff!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5

Alright they are not always great.
I doubt a job will come up at the water company anyway, so I do not have to worry if they are ethical or not.:beer:0 -
Phil
You seem to get dispirited very easily. Please try to be more positive about your chances.
OK so if there are more people applying, statistically your chances may be reduced on the raw numbers. However it doesn't mean that everyone has an equal chance of being short-listed: you may be much better suited to the job than the median candidate so your chance will be that much better.
Any way, you are supposed to be revising for your finals right now so don't spend too much time in job search. I'd suggest that you set yourself a target of, say, no more than two applications a week.
When your exams are out of the way, you may have a job offer to start in the summer or you may still be looking and be able to give more time to the search. Let's hope you find the right place for you when you need it - but don't get worried about it now, keep on with your studies as your success in that will aid your success in your job hunting.

Thanks!!
I do think I have a good chance, but I amjust worried some other graduate from another university is going to come with more office experience than me and get the job. And that will leave all my passion and knowledge of the sector and programmes involved as worthless.:beer:0
