Spill the beans... on how to minimise loo paper use

  • My wife is Thai, I've had to install a hose which you basically squirt up your backside, then just a sheet of paper to wipe dry.

She thinks us using toilet paper is plain dirty, and I must admit using her system i do have a cleaner botty and use less loo paper. :money:
  • We found the easiest way of cutting down on loo roll was by getting rid of the kids! (In the nicest possible way, of course - they've flown the nest)
  • We use Nicky toilet paper - nine rolls for £2 from Home Bargains or B&M. It is thick (three ply), quilted, and pretty. Some colours have added aloe vera lotion. At just over 22p for a decent sized roll, there is no need to economise or to give up your comfort.
I used to always use Triple Velvet, Andrex or Cushelle up until 2 weeks ago and now I am a total convert. Fed up with the dust and fibres the other 3 seem to make, not to mention fingers going through it , even with 4 or 5 sheets as soon as it gets wet, come across Nicky when buying cheap stuff to take on holiday with us , now we use it at home too, I have 36 rolls still of Andrex under the stairs , but prefer to use this, much stronger , substantial ,soft and gentle and I find most times 2 Sheets does it for no1's , do like the addition of wipes still though.

I have lived in Asia for many years and in Thailand they use what is known as a 'bum gun' to clean after going to the toilet. Its just a water gun that you spray the bum with which is far more hygenic than toilet paper as it really does the job. The Thai's don't think that toilet paper alone is very sanitory (as do most non western countries) and I have to say that the idea of going back to toilet paper alone is not something I would look forward to.

As I am new to this site I am not allowed to post a link but if you put 'bum gun' in google images you will see what I mean.

As in Thailand the water is warmer than the UK it might take a bit of getting used to and would need some plumbing in, however as I am due to be moving back there next year I have been frantically looking around for an answer to the dreaded prospect of having to use toilet paper again. Luckily you can buy these on amazon for less than £10 and they will save you a fortune on toilet paper as all you need is a couple of sheets to dry of or you do it Thai style and just wiggle your bum when you get off the toilet and that'll do. No need for toilet paper at all!!

If you want to find one on Amazon you need to put in hand held bidet and they range from less than a tenner upwards.

I swear to you once you try this method of cleaning you will never go back to paper again!!
  • I tend to purchase those 6 rolls loo paper with 400 sheets on them I found them better value than some of those 9roll cheaper brands ones.
:T Smartprice Toilet Tissue Jumbo Rolls - 400 Sheets per Roll (6)

£1.96 works out at 32.7pence per roll .

P.s some wall mounted toilet roll holders may find them abit of a squeeze to get them onto the holder , I know mind does;).

I agree with this - I use a small amount of Andrex toilet paper and then just one wetwipe. Definitely leaves you feeling cleaner and one sheet won't block drains.
  • Remember Red Dwarf. "One up, One down, one to polish!
  • Learnt this at girl guides got a badge to prove it.the one sheet method.
step 1 tear corner off a single sheet and set aside
Step 2 push index finger through center of sheet
Step 3 insert finger into rectum and scoop.
Step 4 pull finger through sheet wiping clean.
Step 5 use saved corner for cleaning under nail.
    Step 6 :) contently
  • havent you people out there heard of NICKY loo rolls, excellent tissue, and always the best price £4 for 18:beer:

But NEVER put a wet wipe down the toilet! They are amongst the worst drain-blockers (along with nappies & sanitary towels).
