On a light note: how long into your relationship untill you got engaged?

Met at uni, been together coming up to 10 years when we got engaged the January just gone.
When we marry, it will be our 12th anniversary

For us it was just a few months before our 10 year anniversary! I was very impatient, but we always knew it was going to happen, boyfriend just wanted everything to be perfect first!

well ours is a long story from my point of view

we had dated a couple of years earlier and kept in touch, she was a really close friend, we spoke on msn every night etc.
i was due to go on holiday and my lift to the airport was looking like they were going to let me down, she offered to drive accross the city to pick me up and back accross the city to the airport and wouldnt accept any money for it if my lift fell through, my lift came through in the end though.

it was the summer of 2010 and while i was abroad england played germany in the world cup- the match we lost on penalties, an excited german man leaped up and knocked the table, sending some random woman's drink over my top of the range blackberry, which meant i had no phone and no phone numbers. i used the internet at the bar to post on facebook what had happened and to ask for everyone's numbers, i got one reply- guess who

the day i got back from holiday i got home mid morning after a 15 hour delay, got my sim replaced and got a new phone, texted to thank her for the number, that was about 10am, we texted all morning and afternoon and about 4:15 i asked her out, i stood frozen to the spot in my kitchen for about 5 minutes till her reply came.

then 11 months later, i had been ill and spent a week on sick leave looking at wedding rings and trying to work her size out, i had developed a mystery stomach condition after getting food poisoning (turned out to be ibs) and a week later we went to liverpool as i was well again (and it was one of our first dates), it was sort of celebrating moving in together which had happened 2 weeks earlier (future mrs s.s had got rid of the flat from hell and moved into my place), we went into ernest jones to look at styles of rings, she tried one on, fell in love with it and we walked down to the docks (all the benches in liverpool one were full and we were tired) and i proposed there, the plan was to propose a year to the day after we got together on holiday but i changed my mind.
i got down on one knee and before i got as far as my knee touching the ground she said 'yes i will marry you now get up before someone makes a scene of us'

Met 10 months ago after "finding" each other on Plenty. Moved in together after 7 months, and engaged last month! Interested to see some others have "fastracked" too!

Umm been a bit of a whirlwind for us, we met up on his birthday for a drink with loads of others, he told me he'd like me for over a year and wanted to ask me out exactly a year ago....I had no idea! So I said we'd go on a few dates a week later........so that only lasted for 2 cos we decided we were both well into this, so exactly a week later we went public that we were an item

It sounds very fast, but we have known each other 20yrs, he waited a year to ask me out, and in the short time together I thought he was going to die twice, so we don't want to hang about!!

And yes, your most reluctant to get married BG...........is going to be getting married!! :eek::eek::eek::eek:

We had known each other all our lives (our parents are best friends and his mum is my godmother).

Had always thought he was nice but both of us had had girlfriends/boyfriends and then he went to Navy. His brother got engaged in 2010 and I went to his engagement party in the November. had split up from my boyfriend 2 weeks previously and so took my cousin as a +1. Ended up chatting all night and then went home and talked all night. Never thoguht I'd hear from him again but he asked me out and our 2nd date was a wheel at a christmas fayre (mini version of the london eye) and then went to London on the 2nd of October and he proposed on the London eye. He put my handbag down on the floor and I said 'This is NOT an appropriate place to put my handbag on the floor' and then he said about the mini wheel being our first date and I said 'No it was our second'! In my defence I didnt know what was happening at that point! We are planning to get married November 2013.
