I recall someone admitting on another thread that they opened the pre packed Broccoli I think it was and snapped the stalks off and rebagged it. Was amazed by that one!0

This is my biggest peev in supermarkets!
I see it all the time in my local store. Everything from cooked chickens to sandwiches. Drives me mad.
You are not seriously that hungry that you cannot wait 5 minutes to eat it in your car.
This was in my local paper a few months back

I haven't touched the p&m in that store since!

In the past I used to see ripped open bags of bananas with 1 or 2 missing because the loose bananas aren't to the satisfaction of the customer. Same with apples as well, instead of opening bagged fruit just ask a member of staff if its ok to do or if theres anymore loose apples in the warehouse.0

Now there's an interesting question, as pre bagged fruit and veg is usually more expensive, could it still be construed as theft to open them and separate? Presumably pre bagged has a higher buy in cost than loose.
Also, in regards to the Broccoli, as supermarkets buy in based on weight, again is it theft to snap off the unwanted stalk and take the heads?
Its interesting when you think about it.0

I'm with you threemuttleys... IF and it's a really big IF I need to eat something to keep me having a hypo, then I will get what I need, go to self scan, scan item, pay for it, get receipt and maybe walk back to the car to eat it. THEN i'll go and do my shopping in store.
I can't understand WHY it's OK to eat stuff as you go around. it's unhygenic (you haven't washed your hands AND someone else (who also hasn't washed their hands) has touched that!) and it's THEFT.
Unfortunately for the rest of you who think it's OK to take stuff and eat it whilst you are walkign around, my children will LOUDLY ask why it's OK for everyone else to do it and not them. i ususally reply equally loudly "because we are not theives".just in case you need to know:

LOL some of the replies are just class. Just glad that when I eventually have children I will raise them with morals and to know the difference between right and wrong.
Hint for the clueless lot - consuming items in a supermarket before paying is stealing under contract law (look up "Invitation to treat"). No exceptions.0

Im with fannyadams, and threemuttleys, i feed my children BEFORE i drag them round the supermarket, as its wrong to steal grapes cheese strings etc, whatever it it. Apart from the fact we live in the country with lots of farms and people with horses who come into the supermarket with dirty clothes on and boots covered in horse poo, touching all the fruit and veg. Its enough to trigger a germ obsession in me0

I find it hard to understand that people can't go for an hour, walking around the supermarket, without having to eat something?
If you're that desperately hungry why not use the cafe before going in, or buy something to eat and then do the main shop? It's generally acknowledged that you buy less waste when you're not hungry anyway!!The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

Have to admit that if I'm buying loose grapes (nearly every week) I always try one first. This quite simply is because the quality can differ immensely from week to week. Some weeks they are sour or very soft and frankly not very nice.
Yes I could take them home and return them to the shop but for the sake of one grape stopping all the hassle for both myself and the supermarket I think the result is good for all concerned. It's someone else's fault.0

Actually there was a documentary about a supermarket (can't remember which one, but one of the big ones) some months ago where the manager said people could try the smaller items (such as grapes) before purchasing, so there's one exception. It's someone else's fault.0
