Well I can't see how you can read it like that, try reading it again.

I don't know about other supermarkets, but my local M and T have grapes in open topped bags with the weight, variety etc. printed on the label. The barcode on the label then gets scanned at the till.

I'm also pretty sure it is against the law to sell pre-bagged fruit and veg without the weight/unit and price on it, or displaying the price you will pay next to them if they are all the same price.

Mr S and Mr A have various bags in the loose grape section with no barcode and price on them and get weighed and priced at the till.

When I go shopping it is with the kids and a buggy, 4 yr old walking alongside, 2 yr old on the back bar, and 3 month old in the buggy, so no space or hands for a trolly or basket, I do put my shopping on the hood and nappies on the handle bars.

If I buy loose fruits my children are not allowed to eat them however things marked as a set price - yogurts / cheese strips they can have them as long as they let me shop, and I still pay the price the items should be. However when this happens I do not go to self check out as this is a hassel with the weight and go instead to a manned till and the Sa told I have taken some out. My son (4yr old) in his not so quiet voice has asked many times why so and so is allowed to eat the grapes from their bag but he can't.

ONCE I did my shopping was minus a buggy so had the baby seat inside the trolly as it did not have a holder, my very active 2 yr old in the seat of the trolly. After getting back to my car realised I had not paid for crisp pack as it had slid under the baby seat, went back took my reciept and explained to customer services and asked if I could pay there - they laughed at the fact that I had come back for something so little!

Some parents with young children do not have an option to do otherwise and shopping on the buggy is the only way to get their shopping (I mainly shop online as its less of a nightmare), this does not mean that they are less dishonest.

The amount of times I have wished I could leave the buggy instore where it would be safe while I used a trolly to do my shopping-oh well not for much longer as our local Tesco's has said they will bring in those trollies with the baby seat as well as a toddler seat very soon.
  • OMG cant believe that you begrudge some one a few grapes especial from some one like MR T OR MR A they charge you a fortune for grapes. lidles are very good for grapes

for the same reason that I would argue the toss about being over charged by a few pennies.if Sainsburys or Tescos over charged everyone who went through their tills even by a penny per receipt How much do you think they would be pocketing in the tills Stealing is stealing, no matter whether its from a big supermarket or a small corner shop and eating something you haven't paid for is stealing it

So it's ok to steal something if you think it's overpriced ?

I've seen a lot of things that I think are overpriced or that I know are cheaper elsewhere...I've never once thought that made it ok for me to steal!

  • I would not allow my children or myself to eat grapes without paying at a supermarket and anyway they need washing first.

I always buy loose grapes which are weighed at the till but always empty out the ones that have fallen off the main bunch as they are usually overripe and soggy.

My grandad was a greengrocer so I think something must have rubbed off as I never take any fruit/veg from the top as that is where they put the old stock. Bananas are always bought when green, eaten at a delicate shade of yellow and once they start to become speckled or soft they end up in a cake.

My youngest son once screamed our local Asda down because I wouldn't let him have a banana - well they hadnt been weighed and I didnt fancy putting him on the scales.
  • I often see the bakery bags on shelves, where someone's eaten the pastry and dumped the evidence. I also found a three-pack of Kindereggs with two eggs in the other week; had been talking to a chap with a child eating an egg in the trolley the same night and he didn't take care to keep the wrapper to scan at checkout...

We find empty plug in packets, dog flea treatments and deli counter bags stuffed behind items on shelves. I feel that this form of stealing has become all too common nowadays, some people have such a sense of entitlement :(

and WHO do you think pays for 'wastage' or 'shrinkage' or whatever they call it?

    Us.

Because I don't see Tescos (et al) making less profit.

Mind you I wouldn't DREAM of eating grapes unwashed anyway!

There are supermarkets that sell a pre-weighed item that isn't sealed? Seems odd to me. Are these plastic bags with a zip-type resealable top?

Solution 1: use the self-weigh scales to check the bag before you put it in the trolley.

Solution 2: complain to the supermarket about the policy and their failure to spot theft (which it what it is)

Side point: If you see somewhere with pick'n'mix - just watch how many people stick a paw in while passing.
I need to think of something new here...

It really annoys me when parents with pushchairs put their shopping in the tray, on top of the hood etc before paying. Lately I have seen elderly customers putting things in their shoppers before paying, As they will forget to get that beer, steak out to scan.

    Use a basket!

My pushchair does not allow me to hang a basket off it so if I'm only getting a few bits I often do this but I'm more than capable of paying for ALL my items...
