If you think about it it is only a princess-line wedding dress with tartan over it. I bet if you took that picture to a dress maker as "inspiration" they could do something for you at a fraction of the price.Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -

find an independent dressmaker and show her the design and get a quote
OR buy a cheap dress ,plain ,and buy the tartan material and get it added on somehow0 -
Hello Everyone,
I have really enjoyed reading all your money saving posts - all 67 pages of them:-D
I got engaged on valentines day this year and we have planned to marry on May 5th 2007. We are having a teeny tiny registry do and then a large party for everyone starting around 3-4pm [so they will all have had lunch!]. We then plan to provide a hot buffett around 5pm and then a D.J etc later.
I am having real trouble deciding between two possible venues, one is a magnificent old building [owned by the council] we would have a huge beautifully decorated hall, bar area and two annti rooms for about £ 350 - bargain and enough room to invite most people we want to. The downside being we would have to decorate on the day ourselves, organise caterers, buy all the booze and get someone to serve it and then clear up afterwards before they lock up at 11.30pm.
The second place is a lovely pretty hotel, we could get two rooms for the same sort of price as the council rooms. The hotel would sort out the food, provide a bar and staff, we could book a room there if we feel the need for a break and we coiuld have our DJ there. The downside being we would have to knock around 35-40 people off our guest list.
I can't decide between having it all - but having to work hard and have responsibilities for tidying up etc, or have an easy life but lose some of our family!!!
What would you do?0 -
trying getting a wedding cake0

I was given this tip - my boss wrote to Shiphams [producer of meat pastes etc] and asked for any wishbones they had. They sent a huge bag of clean wishbones which she then sprayed gold and used as favours and decorations!
Not to everyone's taste -but cheap and cheerful !0 -

I had the big OTT white wedding the first time around. There were a lot of people there, but I felt I never really spoke to anyone all day! I wanted to speak personally to each individual guest to thank them for coming, but that's all I had time to say to each one.
I'm marrying again soon, and it's going to be small with just close family and friends. I'm looking forward to that, as I feel I'll be able to relax and chat more, and generally enjoy it.
Just one way of looking at it, that you might not have thought of!Here I go again on my own....0 -

shanna IMO you should go for the easy option, getting married is stressful enough as it is without having to worry about catering ,tidying up etc you want to enjoy yourself
and people will understand about you not being able to invite more guests (and if they dont then they are really the sort of people you want at your wedding anyway ; ) !!)
how easy do you think it wil be to strike people off the guest list?
eg have you invited BF / GF of people you know ? that could be one way of whittling it down a bit also people like 2nd 3rd cousins etc ,or partners of your close friends
if you explain to them in advance why certain people cant be invited im sure it will be fine
but remember its YOUR day and you cant / wont please everyone
but so long as you and H2B are happy thats al that matters : )0 -
also forgot to say 11.30 is early and you prob wont want it to end then (and have to clear up ,bit of an anti climax!)
at least in the hotel those who want to can stay up celebrating til later and then just stay overnight in the hotel ? : )
plus you WILL want / need a break as its a long / tiring day lol and having a room to freshen up in or take off your dress for a breather lol is a godsend0
