  • Also, need some advise on getting my wedding dress. Whats your thoughs on purchasing of the internet??? Can anyone recommend a good company to use? I have looked on Ebay and seen that there are lots of Ebay shops which seem to be based in China. Is this a good idea or something to be wary of???

Hi, i know someone that has just got a dress off ebay from China. I think she paid about 140.00 all in for it. I & she was abit jubious of what it would be like when it came/if it came

It arrived though & it is stunning. You would never know she paid that it looks very expensive. She is thrilled with it & it is made brilliantly
  • Hello everyone, have just registered on here....

I have been with my partner for 10 years in october & we have been enagaged for 9 years.. We have finally decided after all this time to get married. My partner has wanted to for ages now but i have just held off.

We have decided to do it now to have something nice to look forward to & plan. We have been trying for a 2nd baby for over 2 years, have had fertility treatment, surgery but none of it has helped. Next month i am back to the fertility clinic & we are being referred to a private clinic for IVF as there is nothing more they can do for us. As you can appreciate 2 years of trying is hard work, it gets emotional, upsetting & causes so much stress

With IVF being our only chance it looks like, we have decided to plan our wedding & have something nice to look forward to.. We have to pay for IVF as well so need to save for this, but planning our wedding will also take the focus off trying for a baby as well.

We have provisionally booked the venue & are going for June 2012, We need as long as this to be able to save, as we are having to pay for the whole thing ourselves... Well we ar going into it thinking that we do any money that we get from my parents would be a bonus but if we go on what we can save in that time we know what to budget & will get no nasty surprises if we then are not given any money we were told we were going to.

I feel so organised & i am never like this normally... I know roughly what i am looking at for the wedding... There is some give & take in it though. I have a spreadsheet set up of prices that things cost, so i could work out roughly how much our wedding was going to cost us then another coloum with my prices in of things i have found or worked out.

I am getting marrried in a manor house & then having the room where the reception is being held made to look like a marquee inside... I always liked the idea of getting married in a manor house & then having a marquee but it is coming out so expensive....

I have looked at venues where i can sort out my own catering, as i dont want posh food, i am also fussy with what i eat. The venue we have chosen though were reasonable on price per head, Some places we looked at were around the 80.00 per head. No way was i going to spend near on 10k to feed people (what a joke)

We have decided to do a BBQ for our main meal. It is something different not very formal, i dont fancy a 3 course sit down meal, although i will still be doing a table plan etc... The evening is just going to be a buffet for the evening guests as well as for any of the day guests that are still hungry

We are having cupcakes as our wedding cake, i have a price for this already..

I am wanting a candy bar, i dont know the cost of what this is yet but if it is not that much i may well do wedding favours as well for everyone to put on the table.. I will also look into doing it myself as well & see what that comes in at.... Where i can save money i will..

Im not having bridesmaids, i have to many close friends i would like to ask & dont want to be in the situation of trying who to decide to ask. People are going to get funny so i thought i would just have a flower girl.. She can scatter the flowers b4 i walk down the asile... Again it keeps the cost down as well...

My dress i am having made i think, although i have seen one on pre-loved that i really like & looks stunning on, it is by Dizzie Lizzie... I am looking at about the 1k mark for my dress.

I am going for a black & white theme

At the moment i am looking at the different styles of invatations, they seem really expensive though, i have had a few quotes of 280-300 pound.. Again i am going to look into making them myself... Save some money here.. I need to get some save the date cards made as well.

I know who i am going to use to take my photographs need to contact them for a price & check they are free on the day off my wedding.. Must do that soon

We have 100 people coming to the ceromony & reception & then another 70 people to the evening do

As i said i feel so organised but with it being so far away feels like i cant do alot at the moment...

Exciting times ahead :-) im sure that the time will fly by

    Happy planning everyone :-)
  • well I have been reading this thread now for three days and I'm still only half way through it!!! lol there are loads of fantastic tips and ideas and I cant wait to get started with the planning of our wedding. we have been engaged for a while now but we have decided that next year will be the year we finally tie the knot! originally I was hoping to do it 'off season' but it seems that everywhere has decided that there is no 'off season' for weddings and seem to charge the same prices all year round :0( never mind, I am now limited to august/septemeber anyway. I have been looking at venues and a photographer and was just wondering if anyone had any tips on bringing down the prices of these things, I feel very cheeky haggling and it never usually wrks for me anyway! I follow the tips and guides from on here and get a straight 'No!' from them all, I dont understand why?! Also, has anyone had any experience of buying through light in the box?

I’ve bought a fabulous horseshoe for my daughter’s wedding from Dalias Creations website (you can google it out). Apparently everything there is made by an artist and is worth a look if you are looking for something more exclusive.

In true money saving style - I've been making a couple of things for the wedding last week I made a trial run ring bowl, by cuting a rolled out piece of fimo into a circle with biscuit cutters and then using my stampers to indent the wording i then made two little holes to thread through the ribbon to hold the rings I'm pretty impressed with my thrifty first attempt. You can see the results on http://lauradsthegoodlife.blogspot.com/2010/06/wedding-ring-holder.html. We also got our brother in law to design the invites which are absoutely amazing they weren't cheap but they were worth it http://lauradsthegoodlife.blogspot.com/2010/06/our-wedding-reception-invitations-are.html and for the favours I've made a start on the homemade jam with all the millions of strawberries down my allotment http://lauradsthegoodlife.blogspot.com/2010/06/strawberry-glut.html there have been 4 1/2 kilos of them so far :)
