  • not everyone's priority is to save loads of cash on their wedding... people have different goals in life, some of us have different priorities and if someone wants to spend £10k on a wedding its their own decision..
i think OP asked for help on how to raise the money, not about how much she should be spending....

I didn't shoot anyone down for wanting to spend £10K on their big day, alll I said was OH and I will be lucky to have a £10 budget for ours. Best of luck to the op and her Fiance on doing it.

My other half and I managed to save 10k in 14 months by being really strict with outselves, also turned out we've managed to afford to buy a house too..

10k is a good amount if thats what you want to spend, it's your call. We're getting married in Mexico next march, i really can't wait

They're lovely ideas jo-jo. Your friends sound lovely!

  • . . .eeh, when I were a lass my wedding was organised in 3 weeks, dress cost £8 from Dorothy Perkins, did our own catering and cleared off to the chinese restaurant with our friends and left the 'grown ups' to natter. Our cake was made and given as a present by friends of my parents Whole thing cost about £100 in 1974. Mind you we are now divorced!!!

One of the best weddings I have been to was in Germany where they just did champagne, coffee and cake (German cakes mmmmm!) after the wedding and had a buffet in the evening. Also had an ice cream wedding cake - 3 different flavoured layers and it was wheeled out, cut up and served as dessert.

My friend is having a chip van and an ice cream van at hers.

Why not ask friends with different talents to help with specific items instead of giving a present - design and/or make invitations, make or decorate the cake; table decorations etc. If you are getting married in a church perhaps the people who usually do the flowers would love the opportunity to do some 'fab flowers' - you would pay for the flowers and their time but I bet it wouldn't be as expensive as a posh florist. My Mum used to do that and really enjoyed it.

  • Hi all...

I got married in the Caribbean... Looked through the Thomas Cook brochure, picked a fortnights holiday to Jamaica in a hotel which did weddings...

This costs around £2k for two weeks for two all inclusive.. Then rather ask Thomas Cook to arrange the wedding - which would have costs about £7 - 800, I went on the hotel website and contacted their wedding co-ordinator direct and arranged it through her for £200 - this included all wedding arrangements, a cake, the flowers, bottle of champagne and an evening meal...

All we had to do was bring ourselves and our clothes and arrange the photographer - one on the hotel grounds for about £40...

So all in all the entire wedding arrangements with the honeymoon cost about £2400... my dress was under £100, and flip flops worn so picures taken on the beach...

The morning of the wedding we were sunbathing and swimming, got ready an hour before the service and was back out sunbathing a few hours later (nudge nudge wink wink..)

Wedding in paradise with no one else there to stress us out... Perfect...!
