I've already said our wedding day itself cost about 5k. OHs cousin spent 25k on hers, and our friends spent 12k on their actual day. Everyone has said out of the three ours was the most fun and enjoyable/memorable.
I'm honestly not being biased but our day was the nicest wedding we've been to.
We got married in a beautiful little church and the vicar was hilarious. The photographer was brilliant and the photos were great when we collected them (not that long) after. We had lovely wedding cars to take me/bridesmaid and dad and OH and best man to the church and then on to the reception. We had beautiful invitations made, but did the orders of service ourselves. My dress wasn't expensive particularly but it was the one I really wanted regardless of price. Having only one bridesmaid helped though her expensive taste in bridesmaid shoes didn't!
The reception involved a three course sit down meal at a hotel for 60 people and then a buffet for 120 on the evening, and we paid extra for this to get a discount for guests staying over.
What else could I have done to possibly spend more? I can't see much really.0 -

You're supposed to be building a life together, enjoying each others company etc etc, and instead you spend your time fretting, worrying, getting into debt and screaming 'but I NEED to have £3000 worth of photographs to remind me of our happy day' lol."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
took me 8 weeks but it wanst as complicated as yours sounds!
you can do it though just make a list of what you want and get cracking. when u have decided what you want DONT change your mind i think thats what takes the time, too much time isnt always a good idea if your undecisive

First of all Congratulations to the OP and his intended!
I helped my friend organise hers, started at the end of October and wedding was in April. She had 100 day guests and 250 evening guests. We spent many days away regarding the dress and other items we needed to buy, we made all the favours but she bought the invitations.
Winter is usually a very busy time for us both and we didnt have a lot of time to spare but we got it organised no probs!
Good luck, and don't forget to look back to the site for many wedding hints and tips on the forums!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

Having been together 11 years me and now DH decided to get married. Managed to get everything sorted and married in 11 weeks on New Years Eve in Scotland. We did well considering we had to book wedding, book venue plus hotel for 65 people. Had handmade satin boots and handmade wedding dress plus shopping for DH and our two boys outfits. Also cake to sort and flowers etc etc. So it shows it can be done with some dedication and sleep sacrifice!! Good luck with your plans.

Firstly many congratulations on your engagement and future wedding.
Also what a great day to get married, I married on the 25th August in 2001, and like you had got engaged the previous year. Like you I also started planning my wedding around this time so it is possible. I also had put an offer in on a house in December which we moved into in March!
Firstly it sounds like you have the main things in place (Church and reception venue). The next biggest obstacle you will have it the photographer, we were VERY fortunate to find one who had a cancellation, but my advice to you is get this sorted next!
After that it gets a lot easier, you will (possibly) need transport (wedding car). Being a bloke I know nothing about wedding dresses, but other posters have mentioned issues with this. Flowers are another thing, but there are loads of florists. Cakes are pretty straight forward to, but get these sorted as early as possible.
I am guessing as you are using this money saving site you are not looking for a huge affair so I guess you will be able to sort stuff out for yourself. It is important however not to get stressed over the whole affair. My in-laws were (and still are) a bunch of interfering, annoying, trouble-making..... oh don't get me started!!!! Needless to say our planning would have been completely stress free had it not been for them!0 -
laura_k wrote:Hi, I'm saving up for my wedding (no official date set yet, waiting until we've both finished Uni and have been in steady jobs for at least year) and I want to make the saving as memorable as the wedding itself - sooooooo, I need ideas! Anything crazy is welcome!! (not humiliating though - I don't think I'd be able to find any chicken suits!!!) So far we have £514 and want to raise at least £10,000, so we have quite a way to go!!!
Any help would be very much appreciated!!!
Love you all!!
Wanting to have a wedding budget of 10K
OH and I will be lucky if we have a budget of £10 :D0 -
not everyone's priority is to save loads of cash on their wedding... people have different goals in life, some of us have different priorities and if someone wants to spend £10k on a wedding its their own decision..
i think OP asked for help on how to raise the money, not about how much she should be spending....** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -
In that case then every penny counts like ebay selling, not having holidays and cutting down on everyday spending.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Back to basics then, slashing food bills to a minimum, having no social life until the cash is raised, walking instead of public transport, no papers, magazines, takeways etc. If after all of that you STILL want to raise £10k for a wedding then go for it - you will have earned it!
Good Luck x0
