Nessquic, do you mind me asking how much your dress was in Debenhams and what time of year you bought it? My local branch don't sell wedding dresses and I'm thinking about travelling to a branch further away if the prices are worth it.
Thanks, sarahYesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0 -
Save a penny, our venue gave us details on a marquee in case we wanted one, the quote we got from a local company was about £3000 including all the set up fees etc. That is is East Anglia.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0

I have just found rings from an Ebay seller in tyhe USA, I got white gold plain rings for myself and OH for £70 including international postageI don't know if you want to buy from overseas but the seller has great feedback and I couldn't find rings over here that cheap. The seller's name is artebarca.
Though if you want a real bargain, hang on for private sellers on ebay - i missed out on a white gold ring for £16 the other day because I was too slow :mad:0 -
saraht, my local branch in leicester doesnt have a bridal department but they where doing a stand in the mall advertising there range, then last september in their summer sale i got it, should have been £500 then reduced to £400 haggled with the SA who spoke to her manager and got another £80 off, opened a debenhams card and got 10% off of that , they also had matching bridesmaid dresses in the sale so the money i saved on mine paid for my neices dressalways on the lookout for a bargin always better when its free!!:T0

Cor finally reached the end of this thread- it has taken me days......
Thanks for all the great tips. Me and Mr Communicate are getting married in 2008 hopefully, and both of his parents are getting married as well (to new partners) so its weddings galore round our way.
Anyhow no-one seems to have posted this link yet (though apologies if someone has and I missed it because my eyes were so tired from the 75 pages of thread!)

I badly need some advice.
Me and my girlfriend are planning on getting married on August 25 this year. the wedding will be in France (my g/f is French) and We got engaged towards the end of last year.
August 25 has been chosen as it is the only date where the church and venue for the reception are available (we are going to France this weekend to look at them for the first time), but I'm concerned that we are not going to have enough time to prepare everything, and we need to decide this weekend one way or another if we are going to get married in August, or delay until 2008.
What is ocmplicating matters is that I currently live up north, and my girlfriend lives down south - we are currently looking to buy a house (asap), so we can move in together, and I am also obviously looking for a new job down south.
The job and house are taking up all of our weekends at the moment and, coupled with the fact that we are apart during the week, and need to make regular trips back to France to sort out the wedding, I just don't know how we are going to fit everything in.
How long does it take to organise a wedding?

How long is a bit of string?!
It depends on what you are having, how many are going and so on.
In my case things like the cake took ages as I baked it and royal iced it myself. However, if you pay someone to do that, it'll only take as long as it takes to pick a design from a picture.
Outfits - specially made clothes with many fittings will take longer than just buying something off the peg.
Invites - making your own will take longer than buying ones from a card shop.
Just a few things for you to think about. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I agree with Becles
it really does all depend on what kind of wedding you are having and how "big" ?
and what things are important to you etc
If your fiancee is having a dress from a bridal shop ( or many online retailers) as oposed to off the peg monsoon / debenhamsetc or even ebay ( new or pre worn) then they say to book at least 6 months in advance,to allow ordering then fittings / alterations etc
personally I would delay until next year, only because of your current living arrangements etc ,it sounds stressful enough as it is !
but if you have people helping you (relatives in france ? who can oversee things ) you may find it ok
good luck0 -
