That sounds great..
I dont really want speeches either.. so im glad im not the only one.. My reason being my mum and dad divorced when I was 2 and although im close to my paternal aunt.. I hav no contact with him.. but I think id be a lil sad about not having a father of bride speech.. my mum will be giving me away tho0 -
Pretty sure that wedding service has to end by 6pm otherwise it's not legal.
Don't worry about no FOB speech - if your mum is giving you away why can't you have a MOB one instead. If formal speeches aren't your thing why not just invite anyone to say something if they feel like it.
My sister had a very low key wedding mainly because money was tight. She had a reg office do and a buffet in a room above a pub afterwards and everyone said how nice it was (even though my dad's family tend to be [STRIKE]quite[/STRIKE] very snobby about this sort of thing). My brother gave a speech at my wedding cos my dad is soooo terrified of public speaking but he managed to say a few words at my sister's cos he just went up and grabbed the microphone after everyone else had finished
I think the chip van idea is really cool :cool:You should never call somebody else a nerd or geek because everybody (even YOU !!!) is an"anorak" about something whether it's trains, computers, football, shoes or celebs:rotfl:

He's from just outside Leeds - and surrounded by lots of green fields so I think that's an excellent idea. I shall get him to start approaching his neighbours!0

squashy wrote:I thought my idea was fab (if i do say so myself, although I was inspired by Jamie Oliver!) - we had our reception in the top floor of a Tapas restaurant! They didn't charge room hire, just a buffet price per head, but brought out banquet style to the tables by proper waiters. Everyone just dived in and it was a lovely sociable feeling. It was brought out in three courses aswell but other than that I didn't want anything resembling a traditional wedding meal.
We chose not to have speeches either, although we did cut the cake and have a little impromptu thanking session! They let us play our own CD's (we made some nice compilations) and we danced the night away in a flurry of sangria! It worked out really cheap, about £500 for 50ish people. (Not including drinks of course!)
Everyone told us it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to- because it was what WE wanted not what is percieved to be the "done thing".
aww sounds fab ! :beer:0 -
Some fish and chip vans will cater for parties and weddings. I don't know if it's the kind of thing you want but you could have one that parks up at your wedding reception and serves everyone with fish and chips.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Someone round here was in the local paper last year for doing a fish and chip reception!
It looked great they just got the local chippy to deliver the food wrapped in newspaper of course!!
I think its a fab idea.!!
Wish i had thought of it, we did our wedding reception at home and paid £100 for a buffet that a friend did us, which was lovely but fish and chips would have been better!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -

Morning all,
We didn't have speeches either. Also no bridesmaids or best man etc. My Dad walked me in and mum was my Matron of Honour. Our 3 year old was ring bearer and nearly one year old was pageboy. They looked so sweet in almost identical suits to their Dad.Our guests too enjoyed it because it was so relaxed and informal. Go for what makes you feel good and not what everyone expects.

Go for it! You only (hopefully) do it once!
I got married in July at 9am, and all went to Chatwins for cakes and tea afterwards, before me and OH went off to the seaside for the day!
Some people thought it was bit 'different', but the people we cared about and who cared about us thought it was fab.0
