Wow, planning ahead a bit aren't we?!!

Well, my sister decided to go for something different for her wedding meal. She had vegetable soup with white crusty rolls for starters, with sausage and mash for main course. It was really lovely and they stuck the sausages out of the mash and it had onion gravy with it, really nice and very warming (as they got married in November).

Go with what you like and things like fish supper or sausage and mash appeals to a lot of people as well, so you almost can't go wrong! (Just make sure people have room left for cake!)

Sounds great! Make sure you do whatever you want to do, as it is YOUR special day afterall. At least your guests will remember your wedding, for being original! As for getting hitched on NYE, none of your guests will leave early!

We got married on Xmas eve, sounds romantic & lovely - & it was, but when will I ever get to go away for my anniversary!!!???
:D I am in the future you know...

Don't be a slave to tradition. IMO the best weddings are where people really inject their own style and personality into it.

I think your meal sounds lovely. We had a barbeque :) Virtually everyone emptied their plates as it was quite simple selection of chicken, steak and salmon with potatoes and different salads.

My friend hired a fish and chip van for outside their reception venue at her wedding 18 months ago. Was a really different sort of reception but we really enjoyed it. They made certain that everybody from the reception had a ticket to hand to the chip van so that the local kids who started hanging round weren't getting fed at their expense!

There are no time exclusions for weddings in churches (certainly not in my tradition), and so will really be up to the minister's willingness - I would do it if this was asked of me by a couple. Are you meaning during the day on NYE or leading up to Midnight-in which case they may have a 'watchnight' service on. You need to make tentative enquiries with the minister.
