I too got married on NYE and have just had my first wedding anniversary. We got married at 5.30 in a candlelight ceremony in Scotland. It was so special and amazing. We also wanted personal touches so instead of having Bucks Fizz etc to greet guests they were given homemade hot chocolate with cream and chocolate shavings on top. It went down a treat and everyone commented on how different it was. Good luck with you plans and keep us informed.

When we enquired about marrying (CofE) I'm pretty sure the vicar said he could only conduct the service up till 6pm,(but that could have been just him -he wasn't overly happy about our 4pm request). We got married abroad in the end. This was 98 when we were making our enquiries.

    Thanks Sheryldoc,

That is a really lovely thing to say. Yes it was wonderful and i would recommend it. Plus it's a brill excuse for going away at NY. Everyone who attended our wedding (65 family and friends travelled from yorkshire) want to go celebrate our anniversary in Scotland again this coming NY. Plus more people want to come along cos they've heard what an amazing time everyone had. Hats off to you Scots you certainly know how to do a NY party!!!

I thought my idea was fab (if i do say so myself, although I was inspired by Jamie Oliver!) - we had our reception in the top floor of a Tapas restaurant! They didn't charge room hire, just a buffet price per head, but brought out banquet style to the tables by proper waiters. Everyone just dived in and it was a lovely sociable feeling. It was brought out in three courses aswell but other than that I didn't want anything resembling a traditional wedding meal.

We chose not to have speeches either, although we did cut the cake and have a little impromptu thanking session! They let us play our own CD's (we made some nice compilations) and we danced the night away in a flurry of sangria! It worked out really cheap, about £500 for 50ish people. (Not including drinks of course!)

Everyone told us it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to- because it was what WE wanted not what is percieved to be the "done thing".
