  • We had a fairly simple affair in which everything was done ourselves and it took just over a year to do it and not be massively stressed.

We organised everything in about 10 months but we could have done it in much less. My sister decided to get married in december and her wedding is in 5 weeks time! Though very little is done and she is really panicking now
  • Am organising one atm. The problem isnt the time to get everything done, its the time needed to ensure you can book everything you want in before they are all booked up.

As said above, if you arent too fussy, you wont have any problem, but even the dress can take up to 6 months if you have it made!

Things might be different in France thoug, perhaps you need to find a french forum lol!

    Bon chance!

Providing you are happy to be flexible with things like caterers, photographers etc if the ones you really want are booked up for that date, a wedding can be organised pretty quickly really. And as mentioned, dresses can take months to be made, but equally you could pop into Debenhams and buy one tomorrow. Just make sure you send the invites out in plenty of time, particularly if you have guests who will be travelling from England, as the sooner they can book flights/ferries/accomodation etc, the better really. Best of luck!

Nessquic, do you mind me asking how much your dress was in Debenhams and what time of year you bought it? My local branch don't sell wedding dresses and I'm thinking about travelling to a branch further away if the prices are worth it.
    Thanks, sarah

My sister bought her wedding dress from the Debenhams summer sale beginning of September last year, it was half price and cost £250. We travelled to Birmingham (Bull ring) as they have a huge bridal department (have to make an appt to try on a dress though). Not sure how far away you are, but it was definatley worth the trip. We were spoilt for choice loads of dresses and accessories, this store is fab very modern. They also have the wedding list dept there with lots of large comfy chairs so you can sit and choose what you want on your list.

We organised ours in about 3 months, but it was all very simple and DIY, without the involvement of parents or professionals (apart from vicars!)

I don't know how they do things in France, but if your fiancee wants whatever's traditional there, and she can leave most of the arrangements to someone over there, and she's not fixated on a particular meringue (for example) in the areas she's got to do herself, then it shouldn't be too bad.

hello all. i'm on the bridesmaid end of a wedding, and organising a hen weekend. we have a rough idea of what the bride wants but need a few suggestions. we're having a cottage in devon, with a spa afternoon on the saturday. the friday night will be chilled out, as all the hens will be arriving. on saturday evening we definitely don't want a rowdy nightclub but are going out for a meal and a few drinks. now, this is where you come in- any suggestions for a surprise for the bride? we don't think she's the type for a traditional stripper but something along those lines but a bit more discreet? something entirely different? bear in mind it's in may, so weather may be a bit better than it is now

  • When me and my partner of twenty years got married there wasn't as much choice about for weddings, we didn't have the internet then to look for bargains.

Our wedding cake was made by a local baker though, who was a lot cheaper than the big wedding cake shops but just as good if not better, our wedding cake was half the price, can't remember how much exactly.

My point is, you don't need to go to the big shops or stores to find a bargain, most small shops or businesses will do the job just as well at lower prices.

If your not confident enough to decorate your own wedding cake you still have the option to buy it from M&S and ask the cake maker to decorate it for you.

This also helps keep all our local shops open

We got married in May we planned it in 3 months, it was near my parents house so they did quite alot with regards the venue etc.

Most people were surprised that we were planning things so late but we had all the things we wanted. I got a perfect dress (half price because it was old stock), great venue, lovely food and best of all our family and friends were all able to be with us (even though we chose a week day).

I also changed my job in those three months, so it was pretty hectic but worth it.

My sister got married last year too, she planned it in 5 months, got a new job and moved house.

So I would say go for it, it can be done.
  • im getting married in june this year, started doing the planning last week, and so far most of it has been sorted. dress, venue, invites etc all done. depends on how big it is and how extravagant you want things. we are only doing a very simple do with about 30 people so not a lot to plan really!
hope it all goes well and congratulations!
