silver chargers / large plate or a large mirror tile
then white / ivory church candles, maybe some tealights too
some greenery
looks very simplistic but effective and natural
or what about plain glass vases ( we had tall squarish ones) with just a few stems in ,we had roses on some tables, gerberas on others and calla lilies on othersas our colour scheme was gold and ivory we had gold stones in the bottom of the vases and then some bear grass in with the flowers which had been sprayed gold
even just 1 stem of your chosen flower in a tall slim glass vase can look amazing
the simpler the better IMO esp if you have very little else on the table just lovely crisp white napkins ,maybe with a skeleton leaf personalised for a place name ?
and a small sprig of ivy or similar ?
i love the white / green together it looks lovely
i guess it depends on your colour scheme / theme ? but there are some lovely simple / cheapish ideas out there
one theme i saw which was lovely was a s vague "beach" theme
large polished pebble were placed on the folded napkins and written on for place names ( or you could use a piece of driftwood ,made into a "name tag" )
the centrepiece was vases with smaller pebbles in the bottom ,and a few floating flower heads added
on some of the tables there were just white candles of differing heights with more pebbles piled up0 -
Hi, I wonder if anyone went to the National Wedding Fair and could help me with a code which was handed out there. I've just tried to buy something on the You and Your Wedding site and it has asked me for a National wedding fair discount code. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks0 -
This may be the wrong place to post so sorry in advance.
I had a wedding booked for August 1st 07 in a castle in Gretna. I cancelled this booking early this month.
Today I have had a letter from the local Dumfries and Galloway council demanding that I pay the £57 attendance fee even though the wedding is cancelled.
I would consider a £5 admin fee fair but certainly not the whole £57.
Prior to this letter the only booking I had made was with the castle, and they would have made a booking with the registar.
So am i obliged to pay the whole fee ?0 -
Ignore the next post if it is by The Lone Ranger.
He is adding the same comment to every post on here asking how is this moneysaving.
Someone will be along to give you a helpful reply soon but i did not want you to be upset by his comments."This site is addictive!"

Dumfries and Galloway Registrar's fees are non-refundable.

Sorry, probably not the answer you wanted. I suppose it depends on the terms and conditions of the booking you made with the castle, but in practice it would be considered prudent of the castle to have ensured they had a registrar to perform the ceremony as soon as possible, and since they incurred a non-refundable cost, they are passing that on to you.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

thanks for the reply.
it is not the castle requesting the money but the council.
in any event - i thought legally they would only be able to charge for actual losses ?0 -

I guess this is a bit like the banks charging excessively for O/Ds etc. In your letter back refer to the OFT ruling and offer them £5 - I daresay they'll eventually go away.0

No, this isn't an excessive charge; it's the charge which was (inter alia) agreed - it clearly says that this is a non-refundable fee, not for doing the ceremony, but for booking the registration. (i.e. if you'd have gone ahead, there would have been a further charge)
If you argue that that cost is excessive, then you're basically saying that everyone in the country is being ripped off. Maybe they are, but the argument is a different one.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I did not sign or see anything from the council.
