We are not putting any money behind the bar this is just for a glass of champagne on arrival and another glass for the toast later on.

Its about £600 for 70 ppl to have 2 glasses of champagne!

In some of the larger hotels they will insist on a drinks package of some sort.
It is a bit steep but they can basically charge what they want as the venue is so sought after. Thats a good deal you have their Melissa x

  • I'm getting married next Nov and have managed to book the ceremony and reception (nothing fancy) already, with a little help from my mum who is a registrar!

    Just a couple of bargain finds that i wanted to share with you;
    - Check out your local dunelm for invites, i found some great white ones with silver hearts on and only 49p for pack of 10 (actually M&S cards). The message inside is a bit too traditional for my liking but thats what we have Microsoft publisher for!
    - Greenwoods a men's formal clothing shop have some great deals on suits, my hubby2b just got 2 shirts, 2 silk ties, silk waistcoat and black suit for £125. Though its not a major money saver I know the suit will last him plus its his college graduation (mature student) later in the month so we've killed 2 bird with one stone!!
    - Also its coming upto the sales and debenhams and bhs always have good things about, be it a handbag, shrug, tiara or even some shoes you spot. I know I'm getting my wanted list ready!!

Please share you bargain finds its never too early to start getting wedding things. :j

Hi everybody! We are getting married in August 2007 and I am currently looking for my bridesmaids dresses. I have already found a lovely one for the young bridesmaid but I am struggling to find suitable attire for the 'older' bridesmaids. I would like them to wear either a pale pink or pale blue (prefer the pink myself but whichever I can find!) but am having difficulty finding anything suitable!

Anybody got any ideas where I could possibly find something in these colours? Looking for thin straps and not strapless. Not too plunging and not too fancy. Also, not too expensive as my dress only cost £54!!!!

Maybe there's something in the sales somewhere? Any internet sites or any shops in the Buckinghamshire area?

    Thanks everyone!:xmassign:

  • forgive my geography but are you anywhere near oxfordshire? bicester has an outlet village check if its got a monsoon outlet. otherwise january sales are just weeks away.

im only have my neice as my bridesmaid so saving mega bucks there ;)
  • i know this is going to sound daft but weve lived here for 3 yrs but hardly know the area!

i know you can hire the local sikh temple but theres no photo ops outside, what other kinds of places can you hire (rooms only) pref with no alcohol license so we can get our own beer! not sure if you can drink in the local church hall.....

Thanks for this. Bicester is not far and nor is Oxford. Do you know....I didn't even think about the outlet village. What a good idea! Do you happen to know when and even IF they have sales there after Christmas?!

    Thanks:santa2:

  • Just found out that the corkage fee for my favourite venue is £15.50 per bottle!!!!!!!

    Is this normal?

Should i just bite the bullet and buy there alcohol?

    xx

That's pretty excessive but I think it was over £10 per bottle at the venue we used, and their house wine was only about £3 more than the corkage charge. And you also have to take into account the fact that if you buy your own wine then you'll probably end up with either too much or not enough. At least if you buy booze from the venue then you only pay for what you use. We went for one of the drinks packages in the end.

Also, we used a drinks ticket system for the evening do (having cleared it with the venue beforehand): daytime guests each got a single drink ticket on their place namecard, and evening guests (who of course hadn't had the drinks package & sit-down meal) each got an envelope containing two tickets. I thought this was fairer than just putting money behind the bar because that approach encourages some people to drink as much as they can before the "free bar" runs out, while those who behave more moderately hardly get a look in. Guests were told beforehand that some drinks would be provided but it would be a pay bar for most of the evening.

have a look on ebay or https://www.jewlz.co.uk
  • The january sales are great for getting things for your wedding. Last year I bought the perfect shoes in monsoon half price (still not that cheap at £37.50 but they are the nicest shoes I've seen, and I'd happily wear them after the wedding) and I bought my underwear in the la senza sale. I actually used my christmas money so it didn't actually cost me anything.
I've also just ordered cheap makeup that I will be using to do my own makeup at my wedding from this site:
    http://www.wholesale-cosmetics.co.uk/acatalog/Beauty__Bazaar.html
They are selling loreal kiss proof lipstick for £1.76 and panoramic curl mascara for £2.96 (wholesale prices) unfortunately it's £5 delivery but if you're buying a few things for yourself or as presents it's worth it.

On another note has anyone got any good ideas for cheap but classy looking centre pieces for the tables.
