  • Our wedding was just under 7 months ago but it was fantastic. We spent about £2500 but of that £1700 was food and the reception.

My Nan made my dress, the gents waistcoats, the cake, I helped (well tried to) with the flowers and buttonholes.
My auntie and Uncles made up all our balloons for us. (Buy balloons, container of helium and wallpaper paste and make cloud nines yourself.)
My to be brother inlaw did our disco

it was basically a real family affair and made so memorable that we did most of it ourselves

My reception is going to be in mum's garden, it's a lovely garden quite large.

The food & drink is being provided by our guests as wedding gifts - we don't need a toaster or bread-maker - we'll complie a list of food & drink & guests can pick what they bring.

We are bbq-ing the food, everyone will take a turn at the bbq - including wearing the chef's hat & apron!

We're having a donut cake - 40 or so Krispy Kreme donuts (another wedding gift) arranged on a cake stand - wedding cake not really appropriate for a bbq

We're also having mini knickerbocker Glories - a la Wimpy of the 80's with fruit & soft ice-cream (you guessed it, ingredients supplied as a wedding gift)

We're not having a photographer - I am a wedding photographer & we wanted to be different so we will arm all guests including children (about 50 guests will be there) with a digi cam and get lots of pictures that will mean the world to us because of who took them not the subject matter.

We are having a video - though probably not professionally it will be left to someone sensible to capture the story of the day.

    So far cost - £0

The ceremony will cost £450 for room & registrars

We're not having flowers, nor favours, nor balloons, nor cars.

We will be buying new outfits but the biggest spend will be on our honeymoon - looking at £5K

We'll have a lovey intimate day with family & close friends & then half way through the reception (9.30pm) we will whisk off to the airport to fly to the USA for a fortnight's holiday touring the west coast.

You could use the to double up as name cards and wedding favours. Just add a tag saying "Please take me home"

    Hope this helps someone

Yes this is very common. Big popular venues charge large amounts! My House Red and White for the tables was this amount so I would just go with the their House wines. I know its alot but the big venues do charge this.

Yeah it sounds quite likely. Do you really have to buy alcohol? Or much of it anyway. I know there have been arguements about this here before, but certainly for us it's just not possible to put too much on. I think we've decided to put a couple of hundred behind the bar (maybe just on house wine and some bottled lagers) and when it's gone that's everyone else's tough luck. It's really not something I expect from attending a wedding, I guess it's not as common where I live than in other places.
Am not witty enough to put something cool and informative here:o :o

If you buy their alcohol don't go for the drinks packages
  • We are not putting any money behind the bar this is just for a glass of champagne on arrival and another glass for the toast later on.

Its about £600 for 70 ppl to have 2 glasses of champagne!
