I had the exact same problem when I was looking for dresses. The unhelpful shops said "well, that's the fashion and that's all we're getting in". The helpful shops (2 of them!) were annoyed that the majority of dresses were like that, but could alter them to put thick straps on!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I was looking for a Mediaeval-y type wedding dress and stumbled across this website, which has the most beautiful dresses - not cheap - but with gorgrous sleeves. https://www.jonasjewellery.co.uk
I'm going for an appointment next week (it's in Hatfield) and can't wait.
Sorry it'n not very MSE as it's not cheap, but they're so lovely!0 -

Having said that, I trawelled round looking for a dress with straps, so I could wear a bra. When I went to the underwear shop, due to the dress having a fitted bodice, they advised an all in one basque would be more flattering than a bra and pants. I actually wore the basque with no straps on as it was more comfy than with the straps on! Dress had thin-ish straps though, so no worries about underwear straps showing though.
The basque was the right choice as my figure looked great on the day (even though I do say so myself!).
Buy the dress then take it to a specialist underwear shop. They were loads more helpful than high street shops and had a special huge fitting room for brides taking big dresses in! If you live in the North East, I can recommened Sadie the Bra Lady http://www.sadiethebralady.co.uk/ They were really nice ladies and I got plenty of help from them. Here I go again on my own....0 -

Anyone looking for bride favours or bridesmaid gifts might want to look up joux joux jewellery at https://www.jjjewellery.com. They have lots of fabulous bridesmaid gifts such as beaded watches, some gorgeous triangle shaped watches and also these really fab diamond ring shaped key ring fobs. They are just wonderful as a bridesmaid present, someone I know ordered the keyrings from there recently and they come in a little box like an engagement ring and gift wrapped inside a ribbon drawstring organza bag. You can order online from them.
Hope that helps.0 -
oh don't know if this has been written before - but anyone looking for wedding cars - should look to local taxi companys - they usually owuld have a couple of drivers that have mercs or bmws, and they are usually happy to look smart on the say and put ribbons on the car - they don't charge nearly as much as wedding car companys.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

another little idea for place settings - my friend got some nice shiny pebbles - sort of 2 inches across and got a calligrapher to write each persons name on them.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

There's a company in Lincoln that we're going to be using called "Arrive in Style". Normal taxi prices, it's just that their little "niche" is that they're all nice cars - that's to take us from the reception to our hotel, anyway!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
