when it comes to dressing up, black is the colour i feel most comfy in... but i had gleaned from a few threads on this site that it is a major no no to wear black to a wedding, and will cause the bride to think you secretly hate herknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -

oh dear - well I usually wear black to a wedding - I've worn a black and white dress, black and red dress, I've got a wedding next friday and I just bought a black dress with little pale gold embroidered flowers on it - I hope none of the brides have thought I hate them!! I think black looks really smart and classy - of course you have to brighten it with a different colour of accessories etc.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

Have a look at prom/evening dresses. They will be lighter than a wedding dress and easier to pack.
That's what I was going to buy, till I saw a proper wedding dress and fell in love with it!Here I go again on my own....0 -
Reading the tip by Mrs Thrift - Thank You and well done with your thriftiness! - I would like to post a note to anyone getting married this year, or the next, or whenever really. I'm getting married this August bank holiday and am also doing a cheap wedding.
Luckily my family is quite large so I've pulled in a lot of favours for the wedding cake, flowers, photography, band and the food. But for the Bridesmaid dresses I wanted something glamorous, fun and comfortable for my Bridesmaids, and most importantly a dress that they would be able to wear again. We ended up tracking down some beautiful dresses from TK Maxx. Very 1950s-timeless dresses for my adult Bridesmaids and two very cute cotton - therefore washable - dresses for my nieces.
All my Bridesmaids are really happy that they're not wearing something from a catalogue or uncomfortable, and that they are stylish enough to wear in years to come.
I also recommend asking family and friends to take more part in the wedding because then it becomes a more personal day for everyone. My friend is getting married this summer also, and instead of asking for gifts off her friends she is asking them to do something for her at the wedding eg. organising the games for children, buying photo album etc.
I would like to comment on a previous posting too as regards to asking for cash as a wedding gift. This is what my fiance and I are doing as we have enough stuff to fill many houses!!
Most guests have been fine with it, others who know us well are enquiring if there is anything we would "really like", as they would prefer to give us something more significant than money.
My advice to you if you are given an invitation with cash as the gift, contact the couple and ask them if they would like a crockery set, beautiful bed linen, or matching cutlery etc. We have alot of cutlery and it is fine, but a matching set is just lovely to have.
I hope my suggestions help a few quizzical minds.
Good luck to you all in your bargain endeavours.0 -

:rotfl:Never heard that one. I just thought all black is bad luck. But that's pretty old hat now. Black pants & top would be nice. Obviously you wouldn't team the pants with a black top. They might think your off to a funeral
. I have worn black pants to a wedding before. I secretly hated the groom though.

I've just put a deposit down for the venue for my wedding next year and have started to think about insuring the day etc. Does anyone have any tips on reasonble wedding insurance. I'm mainly concerned about the venue and dress/suits?0
