Hi,
Sorry to hear about your traumas Gaynor. Sounds like you're getting it all in hand though.
I'm about 5 months away from the big day now!
Here are some things I've discovered along the way which may help someone.
1. If buying a wedding dress online make sure you have someone to alter it as not all dress shops will do this.
2. Try and find an identical dress in a shop and try this on for size before you buy.
3. If you can't try it on first - buy it a size larger than you think you will need - wedding dresses tend to come up a bit small and it's a lot easier to take them in then let them out.
4. Ebay has a wide selection of weddinggy stuff. They have favour boxes for about 5p each (instead of 50p) and veils from about £16 inc p&p (Instead of £100 from bridal shop.)
5. It's amazing what reception venues will try to charge you for (eg. use of cake stand & knife) so be sure to check these things in advance.
6. If you live anywhere near Birmingham's jewellery quarter give it a go. I had my engagement and both wedding rings from there. It was very reasonable (about £300 for 2 white gold wedding rings) and you can get them sized while you wait. They'll also rhodium plate them for you when they start to get a bit worn. (Not sure how much this costs though.)
7. Monsoon sells great wedding dresses for destination weddings https://www.monsoon.co.uk. Not too expensive either.

If need be print up a slip from your computer saying the reception venue has changed. Put it in with the order of service is there is one or give to each guest as they arrive at the church. If the distance between the venues is vast then ring one person and ask them to contact a small group of people to pass the message on. You could get away with just a few calls. Else ask bridemaids and best man to help pass the message on.
I'm sure the day will be fine, and it will make for an amusing speech.
Enjoy.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

Thanks EJ. Love the price on the golfing umbrellas and have been thinking they might be handy "just in case"! Almost too scared to order them in case it's tempting fate!0

What we have decided to do is have a load of personalised fortune cookies made up and a bulk buy of heart shaped lollies/sweets, then we are just going to place them in bowls on the tables for people to help themselves. saves packaging etc.
I wouldn't care if I went to a wedding and there were no favours, but I just fancy doing the cookies/sweets - greedy0 -

How much did you spend? What is your budget?
xx
I am getting married in May 2007, I don't have a budget as such, I am scrimping and saving as I go - with the help of tips from this site.
My mother is paying for the catering, the in-laws will put money towards the drinks, I am paying for the reception venue.
My mother will help with the cost of my dress and flowers, I will pay for all decorations, transport etc.
In case you are wondering, my other half is paying for the DJ and the registry office. We have been together over 10 years and he never was keen on tying the knot due to the expense, so I am trying to shield it from him. Don't worry - he will be paying in other ways0 -

Actually, we've decided now not to have any favours. It's just another expense that we don't need. Talking to friends who have got married in recent years, they wish that they hadn't bothered with them - on the whole. Plus the fact that some people spend a hideous amount of money on them.
PS you'd better not invite me to your wedding as the cookies/sweets would disappear before you could say "speeches"Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0
