We don't know exactly yet but it will probably be about 18-20k. I'm really really lucky though as my parents are paying for pretty much everything as we could never afford that.
I understand that some people can't/don't want to spend that amount but for us we are lucky my parents are in the position to help us outand that's the sort of wedding we would like.
At the end of the day you can spend as little and as much as ou like but it's not really that, that means anything it's the commitment you make to each other on the day that's important.0 -
I think its up to each couple what they spend - if the couple have £50k and want to spend it, then thats their decision, they could be making £150k a year - so its only 1/3rd of their wages, the same as someone spending £3k, if they are earning £30k. .
I hope I didn't offend anyone when I said in my opinion it's insane to spend £50k...I really just mean for me, in my current position if I had £50k I'd use it for something bigger, like a house. Of course if I had a very rich aunt, or suddenly won the euromillions that's not to say I wouldn't spend crazy money on a wedding!:D0 -
I don't see the fascination with how much people spend on weddings, as long as they have a day that makes them happy - why does it matter.
^^ Oh God, so much this! ^^
£50K?! Pfffft ... try $100 MILLION!
Let me tell you, if I was a billionaire, I'd blow millions on my wedding too!"The most desirable trait of the internet is the ability to attribute quotes to anyone."

I could never justify 50k, the practical part of me would never allow anywhere remotely close to that. Ours is shaping up to be about £5.5k.0

There are always some people that would never spend more no matter how much they could afford...probably the people who say ' oh no, id hate to win the lottery, wouldnt know what to do with all that money'. For me, its about practicalities and priorities! If you know anyone who wins the lottery with the above problem i'll help them spend it! MSE i think is about making your money go as far as possible and would do it in that spirit!
Joking aside, I could have spent more than i did but feel i got everything i wanted and the best deals i could for my priorities.
The wage % question would be a lot more interesting!
Meant to say in last post when someone mentioned spending a relatives money easier, i really dont agree, I feel a lot more responcibily with money gifted as I dont like to be seen to waste it. Or inheritance money, i like to think the person giving would approve! My own money, if I spend it and regret it, ive earnt it and only have myself to blame!0 -
c. £20k to get married this weekend, excluding honeymoon. It's all down to affordability and personal choice, we saved up for this and chose to spend our cash on the wedding.
Just because someone chooses to have expensive things doesn't mean they can't get good value for money.0 -
I'm actually quite shocked at some of these amounts!! ours will be about 2.5k with everything included!0

We had the whole shabang, the big white wedding for £3500 and with honeymoon on top £4500.we saved on a photographer and videographer though as FIL and his friend do it
If someone had of given me 7k or 50k for our wedding i still wouldnt have spent it,not a chance we had everything we could have possibly wanted and everybpdy was shocked at how we had everything for the money we did it for.We had 42 day guests for a sit down 3 course meal and 80-85 in the evening.
Im also in a line of business that helps with occassions such as weddings so am able to save a very good amount of money so that helped to

The question how much is your wedding as a % of your annual income is probably more interesting than the total figure, as it shows how affordable the wedding is for that person.
That doesn't really help much more though...
For instance, you get plenty of people on here saying "I'd never spend 50k on a wedding...I'd use it for a deposit for a house!"...but then there are plenty of others who already own their own house. Having other pressures on your finances is bound to effect the amount you spend on the wedding.
Then there are people who've mortgaged themselves up to the hilt and other people who're on quite small mortgages relative to their income.
And then there's debt - how much do they have, how much are they taking on for the wedding?
I think the closest you'd come to finding something meaningful would be "how long will it take to pay for your wedding"...as in if you saved, how long did it take you to save...If you took debt, how long will it take to clear... that gives you an indication of how much of their free money people spend on the thing...but not a 100% feel still...I mean, some people will save religiously, others will just put a little aside...and then there's parents contribution to consider.
Maybe it should just be a number. "Between 1 and 10, where 1 is "easily affordable" and 10 is "in no way affordable", how affordable was your wedding" and let people do the math of their day for themselves to come up with an answer.
FWIW, I'll give mine a 7. We pushed the boat out a bit, but didn't really need the money for anything else, anyway.0
