Thank you everyone for your replies i'm feeling alittle carmer today, this wedding planning is a rollercoaster ride.

I kinda had it in my head that I would give myself until Christmas to get down to the weight I would like to be and then in Jan go dress shopping, my mum has been saying we should go and have a look at some but i'm not wanting to until i've lost 2 Stone min.

We are getting married in May next year which hopefully will be enough time from start of next year to find my dress.

I've been looking in Monsoon as thats where our bridesmaids dresses are from but I look awful in them all lumpy bumpy as they arent structured enough for my shape.

I think I will probably go down the second hand route or sample as suggested, a few hotels round here has sample sales so might go to them and have a look. It's abit like how long is a piece of string.

Thank you for your help :) X

Just to warn you - you MAY have to be willing to fully rule out s typical bridal shop dress as most take 4-5 months to be made. Mine ws ordered august and Will arrive early December.

Not a problem as you have loads of other ideas but just don't want you to be disappointed!!

Thanks for the warning, this girl I work with said hers took 3 months to come in which I thought was a long time! I might start to do some research.
  • Me and my H2B are getting married in November next year, we got our dream venue for £7 k less because were getting married on a Sunday in November and it has worked out really well for us. Were looking at total £6k all in.

Ive had my dress from a sale section of a store, funnily enough they did not mention this room when i initially visited but by liking them on facebook i saw the pictures of their sale room and i have now saved £475 off the dress. :)

I am really enjoying searching out the bargins, and actually getting what i want at a price i can afford - we will not be in ( any further!) debt after our wedding or honey moon :j
    Debt last year ( April 2011)= £19,000:(
    Debt as of today ( September 2012) = £14,900
    Debt as of Today ( Jan 2013) = £12,898.44
Its not easy but its worth it ....:)

We're looking to cap it at £6k (excluding honeymoon - it'll be a package holiday!). Writing it down it seems like a horrendous amount of money. We've got a minimum of 50 guests though (big family and close friends). I know I could save at least £1k if we went with a registry office and hired a hall, but I (and the OH) really prefer the convenience of having a venue sort all the food/entertainment for us. It's also got lovely views for pictures. We haven't got any wedding-related talented friends, and no monetary donations from family. The venue will be £2.8k. The rest of it is what it's come to when I've written down costs for Everything. I've been realistic with those costs, so we'll just look to see where we can save.

Everybody has different ideas on what they're willing to skimp on. A wedding is a very personal thing so it's easy to come across as negative when you're saying "ooh no, I wouldn't have that".

Part of me is a little sad about the cost, but the larger part would rather have a "proper" wedding. Perhaps part of it is that we've both waited a long time, both of us had kind of accepted the idea that it just wasn't gonna happen for us, then we met each other! :D It's a one off, it'll look beautiful, and those pictures will be what we look at in many years to come. :)

  • About 15000 - 20000 zloty, which is about £3-4k. It included
    - my dress, shoes, hair, make up, veil, nails etc.
    - husbands kilt with all accessories, jacket, shoes, haircut etc.,
    - church and registry office fees
    - flowers for me and for church decoration
    - a girl to play the organs and sing in the church
    - sit down meal for about 65 people, lasting from about 6pm to 4-5am next morning, with several (3 I think) hot dishes, lots of cold options (salads, ham etc.), fruit, unlimited drink (juice, water, tea, coffee, vodka, wine and beer), main cake, ice cream, several kinds of cakes, and grill on top (also vegetarian option available) - all in a lovely venue, decorated in "our" colours, which was green and white
    - DJ
    - accomodation for the family members
    - wedding favours, hand made by my cousin
    - a photographer, who was present during the ceremony and in the venue, more or less until midnight

I keep hearing of people spending over 50 000zloty on their weddings... insane!
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Recently I went to a cousins wedding and was shocked on how they spent nearly £50k,

I was annoyed that i felt i was pressured to go to that type of wedding a couple of years ago. It was a lovely place but the weeks 'holiday' cost me almost £1k, the bride & groom stayed for 2wks and their room was £1k a night, the actual wedding was aboard a yaught costing about £25k for the night. Back home there was a second big 'do' for everyone who couldn't go to the first.
I can't even imagine what the final bill must have been.
