I think we spent about £12k including honeymoon.
If I had £50k freely available, I definitely would have spent every penny, and wouldn't guilty about it either!!0 -

I totally agree with the above, my OH's Dad is a minister, he says it's very interesting when he does the pre-wedding interview things (you can tell I'm not marrying in a church huh?!) the bride's that talk about 'the wedding' and the brides that talk about 'the marriage'. This thread has become a bit snappy which I don't think was sterl1ng's intention at all when it was started! Like other people have said it's about a long & happy life together, it really doesn't matter what people spend on it as long as they enjoy the day & are looking forward to their futures.0 -
we did our wedding on about £1700 that was for 50ppl at the wedding and a further 100 in the evening.0

I think you meant the same as the £30k earning couple spending £10k, as 3k is only 10% of income, the same as the £150k earning people spending £15k.
The question how much is your wedding as a % of your annual income is probably more interesting than the total figure, as it shows how affordable the wedding is for that person.
Oops Worryingly - I am an accountant too!!Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
We spent around £12k. For context, at the time we were putting £2,500 per month into savings so for us it was about 5 months worth of savings.
Regardless of what others might think, I do still feel my wedding was in the MSE spirit. I haggled on everything (stood there in the shop in the dress haggling its price
) and made a lot of my own bits and pieces (stationery, postbox etc). MSE doesn't mean taking the cheapest possible option. It means getting what you want as cheaply as possible. 0 -
Really interesting reading everyones posts about this issue... and of course the eternal debate of what it "means" to be MSE! Which in my opinion is to get the best value for the money that you have available to spend!
I would like to spend £3k on a wedding, my hubby to be would prefer more like £5k...so either way we will be having a pretty low cost wedding but we will make sure we find a way to have everything/everyone that is most important to us!GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

Right, I have decided to come back and apologise to anyone who might have felt offended or targeted by my posts. I didn't mean it to come across as personal in any way and I hope that everyone has an amazing wedding day, regardless of their budget.
Idio, I also apologise to you, I was perhaps a little too personal in my posts and that wasn't particularly nice of me.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

Just over 3K all in.
