Mr AJM's 50th birthday today. Just had some cake with a cuppa and going out for a meal in about an hour. I also have a surprise meal booked with his family and my parents for Saturday night.

In money news, the money I spent on my credit card at the weekend made it through to the next bill :( and my slight blip in the account yesterday appears to have been caught in time and I don't seem to have incurred any charges :D

I don't think our budgetting is working for us at the mo. I am going to sit down and work out what we have to pay and them discuss with Mr AJM what we want to do, I am trying to do everything with our wages and it just isn't possible. It may not come out in favour of getting the mortgage down quite so early or we might save a little on holidays/eating out but whatever we decide I think it will be healthier for us in the long run. It is not a weakness, it is being sensible (or that is what I am trying to tell myself). Please can some of you stall on OPing too so I am not left on my own x

Doing my first food product test at the moment and I don't really like what they have given me and don't really what to eat the 2nd sample. Oh well...eventually I will get paid for it!

Boo to having to eat something you don't like, can you not give it to Mr AJM

I made big plans for this year, fill both ISA's, pay £11K of the mortgage, fit a new kitchen/utility room

Then realised we don't have that amount of money to spend, so plans took a knock to the point I'm not sure what we will achieve this year

So now we will plod on with little OP's (so far £400 this year) which is only half a months normal payment

So I have changed the plan concerning the mortgage (well for today I have, not sure about tomorrow) Just going to concentrate on the end date on the mortgage and celebrate each month we knock off, currently 300 down to 148, roll on 147 :)
    Mortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0
    ISA challenge start 2019 £3000/£1500 (50%)

We had a brief chat about it last night while we were out and DH agrees, we just need to decide what we want to achieve.

I'm probably more motivated than most on here as I have a real tangible goal of retiring in 3 years and 5 months (not that I'm counting you understand :D). But even so, I'm not going at it all guns blazing. Will 'only' be having 4 holidays this year instead of 5 (that's a sacrifice for me :o), I enjoy seeing friends and may have bought an ipad mini yesterday. You need a balance you are both happy with and it takes a bit of juggling to settle on it.

I agree with Radish on the product testing - feed Mr AJ :rotfl:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • Morning AJ, I agree with Radish and GG, you just need to find a balance which works for you.

I know I couldn't go without holidays and stuff to clear the mortgage early, but equally I don't buy magazines, DVDs, music downloads etc as that isn't a priority for me, but music downloads are important to Mr T. If you can decide what is a real need vs want - holidays in my mind are needs as working long hours, two kids, two cats, two hounds results in one tired and grumpy Tilly.

Finding the balance is difficult and completely personal. Good luck with your discussions :)

    Best wishes Tilly

Thanks for your comments. I have a feeling our priorities may be made for us soon as it seems more than likely now that I will get a move South with work in September. The downside is it is not where I thought it would be and will mean I have less opportunities to get home and might not have so may holidays with Mr AJM. Until I get the move confirmed I am in limbo but I certainly feel as if I have been duped over the last 2 months.

Fridge and freezer inventories now done and on the computer. I think we should be able to eat from our cupboards for the next week (apart from Sat lunch when my parents will be here) and I am off next week so I am going to do my best to use things up. There may be some weird and wonderful concoctions, especially as I am not very good at cooking away from recipes but I am hoping the good food website will help and the people on here. We are away quite a bit after that and I am planning my first online shop for the day we get back (if I can persuade Mr AJM). Let operation clear the cupboards commence!
