Sept - start of a 'new' year
Comments

I grew up in the Southern hemisphere where the new school year started in January after the long Christmas holiday (which was, of course, in midsummer instead of midwinter), so the association of September with a new year still seems strange to me, even after having seen my own two children through the school system here.and in the caravan everything has its place and its very uncluttered....there's a message there , I think
This is so true. I feel much more relaxed at my OH's flat, because he just hasn't got much stuff. Whereas my house is full of the detritus of a family (especially at the moment as downstairs is full of my daughter's belongings waiting to go into her new flat for her second year of university).Life is mainly froth and bubble

:wave:Good Afternoon Everybody!
Do you think we could be the September Club?
Anyway, have just sat down to a homemade bowl of soup (102 calories) and a slice of bread (58 Calories) - not sure how long it will keep be filled up, but I don't plan to have anything now till about 3.30 when I shall have a cuppa and a ww lemon slice - yum!
I am pleased to announce that I have just off loaded about 10 carrier bags to the charity shop :j I can't tell you how much better I feel. I have kept some bits for the time being. Either to try to sell on eb*y or to take to the shared car boot!
I am now moving on to all the junk. We did make a detour to the recycling centre after the charity shop drop, but still got some other stuff to sort out.
So this afternoon I will load the car up with stuff for the recycling centre and get the garage clear as possible. Off load it at the recycling centre. Then we will go to the library and choose a final book for the reading challenge, which finsihes on the 10th September.
Well Done Viv on your acheivements.
Welcome Lamewolf and
beemuzed - how are you getting on?
lincs - big changes for you, but lots of support and help on hand! Just ask ....
Have a great afternoon everyone x#7 20p Savings Club 20130 -
welldone starlight...you have done so well....wish I could say the same. Although things are tidier I haven't got rid of much and probably won't now today as I need to go and get some bits in a moment...
How do you make a decision on whether to get rid of something? The obvious ones are those items that are broken or don't work but what about all the rest? How do you get over the idea that it may be useful one day? And how do you convince your OH to declutter?0 -
Hmmm....I did find several books to take to the charity shop and tidied up the kitchen and living room by chucking various bits of rubbish/putting thinks away...but then got sidetracked into trying to find an escape for a few days in mid-October! And no, that's not sorted either!Resolution:

Afternoon peeps and welcome newbies. So far today, I've done a load of washing and put on the line. Popped up the Post Office and had to cue for ages cos its car tax time
. popped to card shop to get wedding and christening card. Taken dogs for a walk. No cleaning done yet, but have the bathroom to do in a bit, hoover downstairs, and sort pile of washing out on the bed. But first I am going to have boiled egg and soldiers for lunch, fancied it for ages and today's the day :rotfl:.

They weren't too bad Viv, but one was a little scummy. I can never get a boiled egg just right.
Well I've hoovered sorted out washing and unloaded/reloaded dishwasher, but still have not conquered that bloomin bathroom, maybe tomorrow.

Another ex-teacher here who also sees 01 Sep as a 'New Year/New Start'
Am seriously lacking motivation in certain areas so hopefully keeping up with some of you folks will help. Here's my list for starters (done off the top of my head so not excl!)
* loose those 5 lbs (lost 22lbs last year and these have crept back on) plus a few more
* sort out my craft cupboard(s!!) - argh
* re-start jogging
* enrol for sewing course (already found the one I want just need to fill the form!)
* review finances in light of needing/wanting to buy a house (been procrastinating on this one for far too long)
* try to stay calm during work restructure which whilst not threatening my job is causing stress and changes that I don't like
That'll do me for now

I have always thought of the new school year as a new beginning.
This year i really will
lose the weight - i have to shed 5 stone, but will give myself 2 years with a combination of healthier eating and exercise
clear the house - declutter, sell or donate useful items and throw away the rubbish
clear my craft boxes - use or lose
clear the garden - i'd like to grow some fuit and veg next year
start retraining - i want to change careers and will enrol on a distance learning course that will give me a good start
I think that will do for now:)£2 Savers Club 2013 - £28
20p Savers Club 2013 - £10.20

1. Complete my 101 list. http://dayzeroproject.com/user/buffygetsalife/list/16310
2. Make new 101 list for 2013
Hi Buffy & welcome- LOVE the idea of the 101 list and your list is fabulous. I love lists - just need to spend more time doing things on the list and less making lists! I also procrastinate lots too.
Ditto with house being worse at end of summer - was supposed to do decorating and haven't lifted a paintbrush, big sigh and renew determination to change things for the better.Hi Viv, Savingqueen and everyone else.
I too have NY resolutions for September! Mine are starting on 4 September though as thats when the children start back at school.

Hi esmf73 & welcome too - my children also start back on the 4th, keen to get on with goals then but little sad I won't spend so much time with them (even though my patience is wearing a bit thin now!) and bit anxious for DS2 who is starting year 1 and had some problems in reception last year.
