Hello, go on then, I will play alongside you too!! After all, us suffolkies gotta stick together!! by the way, where are you? (or post me a pm).

I have an exchange student coming to stay tomorrow so I have decluttered the spare bedroom, shortened new curtains, packed up summer gear (can you believe that?) and sorted most places in the house, but I haven't done my cleaning cupboard!! wonder why? must do that next week.

I am in part time temporary work after my old employer went into administration, which suits me fine. I have got my supplies together and I hope next week to have a go at rag rug making. yay!

I also want to lose some weight and tighten up even more the occasional spending as I dont have the spare dosh.

Lets see how we all get on eh?

I'm an ex teacher too, though I guess technically I'm on a career break as I will probably go back in a couple of years! I gave up when I had my DD who is 7, and my youngest starts school in two weeks!!! So, I am very happily plodding along as a SAHM and although I can see a time in the future when I will be OK going back to work, with three kids and a husband who works away alot, being home now is the right thing for us (and I'm lucky DH has a well paid job so we can afford for me to be at home for now).

Anyway, I'm the same, and see September as a fresh start.....I see January the same though, but I do like the new stationary time of year in September!!

    My goals....
lose weight.....I have lost a stone since the end of June (doing on line WW) but have been ill over the holidays so happy it's stayed stable!! Want to lose a stone more, and maybe another after that - I'm after size rather than weight.

Sort the spending out......we started in Jan with good intentions but have slipped a bit so have said get holidays out of the wqay and start again 1st Sept

Autumn clean/declutter and try and get into a proper weekly cleaning routine....with no kids indoors this may, after 9 1/2 years actually happen!!!!

So, I shall watch this with interest. Good luck to everyone else too!!

Great to see more joining in. Hopefully we can help and support each other in our quest to reduce our weight, our spending, the clutter and the time spent on housework. Time can then be spent in more interesting although frugal ways - really interested in the idea of a rag rug...please tell us more.

    Btw I'm in Ipswich

Just what I need. Having started the year well I lapsed for 3 months and we've just gone overdrawn. Noooooo. So
    1) Get back to good habits re. budgets and keeping track
    2) Get back to gym routine (I do have a good excuse here - been away since Sunday)
    3) Declutter house in manageable but effective way
    4) Lose 2 stone
    5) Manage my time more effectively

    :wave:Hello Everyone

It has been really good to catch up with what everyone is going to try and acheive. Aren't we all similar?

Concerning the weight loss, I have been inspired by the Hairy Dieters and have invested in their cook book and it has really helped me. I have calculated my daily calorie intake so that I can loose the weight and I write everything down. Also sadly for now I have given up the wine (which I was drinking most days) and also the cupcakes (which I was baking most weeks). I also invested in a cheap exercise bike and try to do 10 minutes everyday. Did 15 minutes today and burnt off 60 calories.

Didn't manage to off load the stuff in the garage as the weather has been awful, even had a branch come down off one of the trees in the garden.

SavingQueen - The word 'should' is banned in our house. We use could instead. It is amazing how much pressure we can put on ourselves by thinking we should be doing something or not doing something. So no more shoulds only coulds!

Managed to do the weeks shopping today and came in within budget, DH was very pleased as he used to do it (Excellent bargain shopper) but I think that it is part of my job description and I want to prove to myself that I can do it. Spent a long time doing the shopping, looking at different items with different costs and working out what was the best value for money. I was exhausted when I came out, not helped by the maniac checkout lady who went far too quickly for me even though I asked her to slow down ... but that's another rant
Anyway tomorrow is another day ... good luck everyone and thank you Viv for starting the thread.

    Hi savingqueen

welcome to the September new year group - your aims are very similar to mine but you have outlined them in a lot more detail than I have. I retired in order to have more 'me' time but that doesn't seem to have happened. I also know that when away in the caravan I am a lot more relaxed and settled......and in the caravan everything has its place and its very uncluttered....there's a message there , I think

    Hi viv1956 :hello:
yes I can relate to your caravan feelings, we have just stayed in our friends' home whilst they were away on holiday and their home is really uncluttered (but still homely and comfortable) and it really made me think about changes we can make to our home.

look forward to hearing your progress.

September is always my 'new year' too!
Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
    And we were young.

Hey viv :) Good luck with your goals!

maman, what do you do with old lotions and potions which are out of date, if not throw them away? It's all very well saying they should have been used up, but what's done is done.

Agree that if they smell horrible I'd bin them too!:)

I just seem to collect loads of gifts of smellies that (if I'm honest) I wouldn't choose for myself. Recently a glut of M&S Royal Jelly stuff. What i do is keep my favourite things for special occasons then use this stuff for everyday. I'm currently using a handwash as shower gel and the matching handcream as body lotion. Also, if I try a moisturiser and my face doesn't like it I'll use it as a hand/body cream.

I think we all need a fresh start after the carp summer we've had. Go for it!
  • I definitely need something in my life to make me accountable to get me over my procastination issues and what I think is depression. I cannot believe the Summer holidays have gone and I am sitting here in a house that is in a worse state than it was when I started.
